Recently passed all parts of my CPA and am looking to ask for a raise. I currently work at KPMG as a tax associate of 2 years. Is a salary of 75-85k reasonable to ask for if not to little? I believe I would be able to get this amount with another company (if not more) but not sure if I want to leave my current position yet. Any advice?

No advice, but came to say CONGRATULATIONS 🎉

Thank you!! I appreciate it

Very reasonable, but peanuts in the long run. Focus on the entry level experience you are getting opposed to $5k-$10k pay differential. Getting a wide variety of client exposure at this stage is much more valuable.

Thanks but I’d rather get paid in cash!! Hahah, I see your point though but it is more than a $5k-$10k pay differential unfortunately

Sorry but there's no negotiation in public accounting. And cpa credentials are more of a requirement than a pat on the back

like

Make sure to proofread before you send any emails 😂

like

Negotiation is pretty pointless in public accounting, they won’t budge, especially if you are asking for a raise because you passed your cpa exams, that’s what the 5k bonus is for. However, you can significantly increase your pay by getting an offer somewhere else and ask KPMG to match it. I know if someone in a MCOL office who is making 100k as an S1 because she got an offer at another big4 and threatened to leave. Congrats on passing!

likesmart

Note that you'll actually need to go out and interview for jobs. Once you get an offer, show your bosses the offer. That's the only they'll consider giving you a raise. If you just say that you're going to look around for other opportunities, that won't make them budge. You have to seriously show you're willing to leave. That means you have to really be willing to put one foot out the door.

Lololol I’m in a very high cost of living and have my CPA and get 71 k as a staff two soooo good luck! ETA: my reviews are always glowing and I exceed peers 🤷‍♀️

likefunny

Want a switch? Deloitte staff 2 are making 70k in medium cost of living

Which is probably a significant increase in your disposable income ^-^

Let me know if you want a referral! 50/50 referral bonus split

likefunny

Depends on your COL but in MCOL you should already be at 75-85k at other firms

like

A few examples are San Francisco and Boston if I remember correctly. While firms pay more then areas with lower cost of living the increased pay in those markets does not directly correlate with cost of living.

Has kpmg given you a raise yet? If so you might be around 75-85k once raises are communicated.

helpful

Depending on your market, you could be at the low end of that range by year end. The additional compensation for passing the CPA is provided by way of that $5K or $3K bonus.

Generally you won’t be able to negotiate unless you have a competing offer to leverage. Otherwise you will have to wait a couple months for the normal raise/bonus process. With 2 YOE, are you up for promo? If so, your raise should be pretty decent.

What are you currently making and what city are you in?

You should get a 5k bonus - unless the policy has changed. Unfortunately, passing a CPA or the
Bar exam are kinda requirements for the job - in most groups, so it doesn’t call for pay increase.

Congrats OP!!

Are you saying you’d be able to get that much by jumping to industry? Because yeah that might be true. The whole point of industry is that you won’t get good raises so you take a bigger bump at first. PA catches up later. Just so you are aware of what your options are

Are you up for promo this year?

Public accounting requires the cpa for the most part, these other companies would definitely give you more pay in industry but that’s your call

Congrats. Another soldier in the struggle

so every single major dip the last 4 months have been magnified by the use of leverage. If btc drops “naturally” by 5%, but liquidations are in the billions (which they have been), then that 5% drop turns into 15%. Over leveraged apes are literally screwing it up for all of us more than just themselves. Frustrating but also somewhat positive news that onchain analytics, fundamentals, and general TA are still in play. We’ll see what happens because I don’t think these levered traders will stop
