Looking for some advice on the following - I want to make a pivot back to client services, specifically advisory/consulting/transaction services. I have 4 years public accounting experience, and 3.5 years manager experience within the corporate controllership function, both technical and SEC reporting related (more technical than SEC). Next time the conversation comes up, ask the client to chip in for new decor and a rent stipend. I’m sure that’ll end the conversation quick. That’s what I would do, but I’m also an asshole that’s doesn’t care about keeping my job. So mileage may vary.

Most of the clients I have worked with have no idea how much we make, with the exception of the head client who actually sees the full bill rate
I just checked. My client is being billed 90k for my 8 weeks of work. If I made that much annually I would be over 550k as an Associate. I could retire by 30

Wrong profession dude… try stand up
Not their business. You do you.
Client is rude. Your background is fine.

I pay 2k in rent and drive a 2003 Honda. All furniture is from Craigslist. I tell my clients I am cheap.
Wonder what he’d say to Warren Buffett about his lifestyle choices 😜
Why are you eating at McDonald’s? Are you poor?
Don’t take everything everyone says personally. You can never impress everyone
When you've got debt to take care of, choosing to save on rent to service debt and potentially save a bit is being responsible, not cheap.
Why don’t you just smile/laugh say “I’ve always been a frugal one!” Then move on and never think of it again?
How did that even get brought up
Wow, your client sounds like a dick.
If you stay in consulting remember this. Clients are not your friends.
Lol I feel your pain. Boston is expensive. All the jobs are located in certain areas that are hard to get too, especially for consulting. Add in that rentals are pretty old and you still need to pay up for it.
Noise! Keep your head high!

I like being frugal - I’d take that as a compliment. Spending money on stuff that looks nice is stupid. I still live in my starter home and have most of my furniture from when I lived in an apartment (bought nice stuff, so it would last forever). However, I spend frivolously on experiences and items that will provide (or elevate) said experiences. What would be the point of having a much nicer place, if it impaired your ability to travel more often, or go to shows or concerts and splurge for the best experience…?

2300 for yourself? That's not cheap lol.
I was paying $800 in rent for a run down shack in the Bay area when I was making $90k
Huh? How can someone even say that?
Take that as a compliment. At least I do. Living cheap is like a challenge I love to do.
You're too focused on doing a good job instead of remodeling your place and clothes shopping. 😉
