Staff at EY without CPA — planning to stay as long as I can until I’m stuck. I don’t want to do accounting anymore after. Could I get into financial analyst roles? Or IB? Or consulting? What would I need to get into those

Longer you stay the harder it gets to leave.

IB is not going to happen. Consulting, not too hard of a move but requires a lot of networking. financial analyst not too hard.

If you really want to leave accounting get a T20 MBA. That will open doors to IB.

Otherwise, FDD > IB is an option but not in this market.

like

Deal market is shit, most FDD groups did layoffs and few are hiring.

I snagged investment banking, corporate banking, and consulting interviews as an audit A2 at a big 4. All tier 2, boutique, or lower middle market places. Cast a wide net, prep extensively and you have a good chance of switching to something else.

Good idea

I got into consulting at Kpmg kind of randomly by going into AAS and then moving to finance transformation but I’d say my path was kind of by chance

I do sales for a major engineering firm. Focused on new business and exploring new markets. Last year I was in the top 50% for order intake, and first in number of projects won along with number of new customers. I think this is extraordinary given the effort it takes to win new business.

For next year my goal increased by 2.5X, and less of what I bring in counts towards that target. I really enjoy my job but I will essentially be getting a large pay cut. Lost in what to do besides quit??

Currently at Big 4. Have offers for a PL/Principal at MBB and for a VP role at a Fortune 20 company. The VP role is more interesting and comp a bit better but I’m told would accelerate faster at MBB. The initial plan was to end up at MBB. What’s the best for future flexibility?

What’s going on FB friends,

I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.

Any thoughts?
