Any layoff expected in bny ?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Hope you can accept this in the spirit that it's offered: I am praying for you. Hope you get well (all around).
No. Most ppl are really respectful. They’ll just say sorry to hear that you’re on leave and that you’ll feel better soon. We are all adults who work with intelligent people who know life is complicated. There are so many conditions out there that are equally private - I know people who’ve taken leave bc they were undergoing multiple rounds of failed fertility and hormonal treatments, people who’ve left for depression, people who’ve left for IBS... all medical conditions are private! Get well soon and take care of yourself, health is everything.
If the firm you work for doesn't get it, they aren't worth it man. Take care of you first. You're worth it.
No, health comes first.
Don’t make something up. Just take a medical leave of absence. The firm doesn’t need to know the details. Take care of yourself first.
The fact that you want to get treatment is a huge first step taken, and that you want to take time off to focus on really improving and getting past this. You’re doing all the right things and setting yourself up for success. Try not to worry too much about what your colleagues will think - if you say medical leave, people should be polite and not ask additional questions. If someone does, it’s definitely okay to say “it’s not something I feel comfortable discussing” or even “I have severe back pain and the doctor is recommending extended therapy away from the stress of work. I’ve been trying for a year to do it with my job, but it’s just not working. My back is a big deal and I’m worried about a life of pain if I don’t fix this correctly.”
It’ll be hard, but you can definitely do it. Sending positive thoughts your way!!
I’ve never personally done this, but I know two people who have taken medical leaves. In both cases, the company had a third party service who helps you manage taking the leave. You don’t communicate anything to the firm. They send notifications for you without you having to provide an explanation. Nobody needs to know why you are taking the time off. I believe you have to provide doctor details to the third party You should look into your benefits. Best of luck!!

They went to therapists for their issue. You should definitely look into a professional.
Def serious. Take care of you. Also you are young so this is very concerning.
I’m really not sure of the type of doctors deal with your issue. Look into a primary care and they can likely point you in the right direction. I can tell you that the people I know both took leaves for mental health. Nobody knew a thing. They went to back work with no issues.
M1 did they go to rehab or just got over it themselves?
A little paranoid though. I feel like people will ask questions on my last week and I wouldn’t know what to say. Will I just not have to show up to answer those questions?
Someone in my team had a psychological stress her needed to deal with and he took medical leave too, no issues from us. Everyone will want the best for you. You don't need to tell anyone anything more than that you need to take medical leave. You'll need a doctor providing that recommendation and clearing you of the issue at the end. I would also start with a normal primary care doctor who can refer you to the right type of treatment facility.
To your last question, HR and your manager will be looped in to help explain to your engagement manager that you need to take medical leave. That's all anyone will need to know. You may need to transition your work to someone else but you should feel free to say the same thing you that person too, or even less, ie you'll be rolling off, no need for them to even know you'll not be at the office really. Firms take your personal medical information seriously so will not be pressing you for details they don't need to know.
Op, your doctor cares about your health. They’re not here to give you judgement. Tell your doc that you’ve been taking more than you’re supposed to and that you took a friends extra script and that scared you, if it makes you more comfortable. The point is you’re cognizant of your dependency. They will respond to it and work with you to get you the right help. Proud of you for seeking help. Don’t delay it!
I have back issues. A PT regimen got rid of the pain completely. There are also trainers at Equinox who specialize in building strength to compensate for injuries. Percocet also has Tylenol, and you can probably get by with just Tylenol for a long time. But get off the opiates. Just think how nice it will be to take a normal dump!
Once you start the process with emergency mental health services, you can call your insurance company and ask to initiate a medical leave of absence. It will be good to take time off for a while to make sure the treatment is complete. Do not go back to work too soon. Take your time.
Almost every Employee Assistance Program has specific coverage to deal with drug and alcohol issues. Call your EAP; they also offer anonymity. And as someone going on medical leave, I’m literally only telling my client team “I’m taking medical leave.”
Still worth talking to your doctor, OP, and seeing what options you have. Please don’t let this stop you! Your health is for the rest of your life but this job is temporary.
You should also still have options like the employee assistance plan that can at least let you talk to a therapist for free (I think 3 free visits is kind of standard but your benefit may vary). You have lots of options even if leaving the job entirely isn’t one of them. Can you request to work in town only for a while? Maybe that can help you with a routine?
Trying to be positive for you - it sounds like you feel defeated, and I’m hoping this doesn’t stop you from continuing !
