Swearing in an interview. Automatic no?

Swearing shows a lack of vocabulary and easily set off emotions. Stay calm and in control.

likefunny

Lack of vocab? That’s bullshit! It’s not what you say but when and how. It shows passion, when used in proper context.

Fuck me! What happened to you lot!? This is advertising. It’s meant to be FUN. If you’re gonna not hire someone because they use a swear word then y’all are probably in the wrong industry.

likesmart

No, but people who take swearing super seriously are not fun. Fact.

Depends. Not automatic.

I can’t follow this thread. So many opinions. All contradicting one another.

How do you make it through a day at work?

funnylikesmart

I’ve shitted but not fucked

likefunny

Depending on context. No.

like

Nope. Not a deal-breaker at all. Depends on the context, but there is good research to backup that swearing is actually a sign of intelligence and valid expression of emotional intelligence.

We interviewed a designer who called herself a typography whore and said dick a few times. My CD thought she was great.

like

Those are my criteria for hiring designers, too

likefunny

I prefer people who have less filters tbh. 🤷🏽‍♀️

like

It's fine as long as you keep a balance. Follow every swear word with a Hail Mary.

likefunny

Just my opinion, but I think that rarely used and well-placed swearing does what it should: stops people in their tracks and causes them to listen when you really need them to listen. I get tired of people who overdo it. It's like their vocabulary is made up of the same five words, mixed in with the occasional, "Um".

likesmart

I don’t think its an absolute no, you have to read the room

like

Cursing is only for people with a limited vocabulary...or so my grandmother always told me 😂

funny

Nope. There are better words that can be used to express.

like

Not a deal breaker but you don’t know that person you’re interviewing with. They’re not your mate. Yet. Tread carefully. A shit is fine but don’t f-bomb in an interview.

like

I want to work with human beings. Context is key, so I can’t make sense of a blanket ban on any word at all in an interview. Surely, someone could come in and curse in a way that put me off, and the next person could do it in a way that was charming or relatable.

What do you think?

like

100% okay.

like

Automatic no.

funny

I would never swear in an interview, whether the interviewer or interviewee. My parents didn't "allow" swearing, not because swear words are bad per se, but it was a way of teaching how to control your words in differing situations.

funny

My parents also didn’t allow me to be out after dark. Obviously that doesn’t apply now.

funny

Read the room. You can probably tell how the interviewer will respond. It’s often less about the company culture and more about the interviewer’s personal style. But net, net, definitely not a dealbreaker.

like

Swearing usually displays some sort of anger or displeasure with something. Is that what you want to show your interviewer? And even if your interviewer swears, who’s to know if it’s a test, or that your interviewer is a fk’d up human? Always take the high ground. Then when it’s over, you can say, “thanks for the f’ing interview mofo!”

like

You’ve clearly never been to England or Australia... or a bar. People swear at each other to express friendship and inclusion.

What you’re thinking of relates to tone, not vocabulary.

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. I’ll of course prep for the interviews but am afraid to burn potential bridges if I ultimately decline because I’m still figuring things out.

Hi Fishes,
I cleared LTI all rounds and in HR discussion we came on mutual agreement for 16lpa .I have 7 years of experience and they gave me Specialist - Data Engineering(P3) role. And we agreed I will join with after 60 as I had to serve 60 days notice period. I was waiting for offer letter and when I received the offer letter I was shocked to see that CTC mentioned was 14LPA and joining date was only 15days from now ,which is way early.
