Thoughts on making the jump to Guidehouse (Federal Health sector). Salary is higher but day to day responsibilities are basically the same. Tired of all the BD/firm initiatives work but seems the expectations/utilization goals are the same. How do other benefits/exit opps compare?

Wouldn’t recommend Guidehouse - promotion opportunities minimal and BD is crucial to getting to the next level. WLB differs across projects but generally you won’t be expected to put in crazy hours. Company perks are minimal and mediocre, lacks strong leadership, but generally good people work here who aren’t jerks.

My exit opp was Deloitte sooo

How is GuideHouse state? I am talking with a recruiter for position in New England area

like

Messy - most of the big projects I know of are covid reimbursement / auditing.

OP, stay far away from GH. As someone who has worked at both firms, Deloitte is night and day better than GH. As others have said, your BD responsibilities won’t end at GH, if anything they will increase. Being PE-owned means outrageous (and unachievable) growth targets. Benefits and company perks are also miles below Deloitte.

Happy to DM if you have any specific questions.

like

Agree - can confirm. Although short run salary increases are available at GH. We’re poaching from all over and luring people in with “high” base salaries. But don’t expect anything special.

Does Guidehouse have any CDC projects with Fauci?

funny

he doesn’t work at the CDC…

like

Do not come here if you’re tired of BD and firm initiatives. Culture is still being formulated, so firm initiatives are heavily encouraged😉and as far as BD, we’re owned by PE Veritas, so there is always a push for more BD. I would go contract if you want low responsibility/high pay. I came from contract thinking employment would be so much more interesting,WRONG, and now trying to get back out.

like

When you say contract, do u mean defense contractor (NG, Lockheed)?

I would recommend leaving consulting if you don’t want to do the BD/firm initiatives

like

It’s something I ask for, and they basically ask you to answer that in the phone screen anyway

As others have said, absolutely do not go to Guidehouse if you are looking to advance your career and escape BD/firm initiatives. Only way to rate high is to do them. You could conceivably skate by for a few years as a Consultant or Senior Consultant without doing any, but you wouldn’t promote. Also there is literally zero investment in staff development and training. PE firms don’t like to spend money on staff.

like

Deloitte = lots of sizzle and no steak

like

Would it be worth trying to bring Guidehouse’s offer to Deloitte to negotiate a salary increase?

It could backfire on you in a big way. A lot of times people to show offer letters they are already viewed as someone who’s already disloyal enough to look for another job and receive an offer. I wouldn’t recommend it

helpful

Honestly every consulting firm operates the same way with BD/firm initiatives , especially as you continue to climb higher up the ladder

My SO used to worked for Guidehouse and although I cannot speak for you I can tell you that they were very unhappy there

People I know that are here at Deloitte from that house have said without question that our bonuses our head and shoulders above anything that guidehouse will ever offer. So make absolutely sure you’re very happy with the salary

Must have small bonuses at GH since Deloitte bonuses are paltry compared to MBB

Hey Fishes,

Joined LTI recently in P3 band. However not allocated any project. Got a call from the resource management team to relocate, which I rejected upfront as I was promised a role in the location I am posted. It has been over 2 weeks since I am in bench. What shall be the next steps, shall I wait for some days or start looking for other jobs as getting a project looks difficult as there are minimalist responses.

I am writing this message besides the staff group of EY GDS. Specifically Staff -1 at assurance level. I would request everyone to spare few minutes and read it -

Wanted to bring out that staff-1's are paid peanuts (3.33L CTC) please don't expect them to slog 12-13 hours. They don't have enough motivation or incentives to work that long. Seniors,AM's and Managers should be more kind and explain the work to them clearly rather than making last minute changes.

Hi fishes,
I'm 22 and planning to take a life insurance. I'm comparing all policies and max life seems attractive as it has good claim settlement ratio and less premiums. But there is no office near our area. My worry is that if there is a need to claim in future, it can be done all online by my nominee? Is it recommended to take policy online in any platform(like policybazaar)?
Other options I'm considering are SBI life, HDFC life which offices are available in my locality.

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

Does anyone else just not even want to be a people manager anymore?! The amount of work this is taking, I’m just so over it. In addition to them piling on my work (which is a full time job) the people management stuff is just as much a full time job that no one in management seems to take into account. I have tried countless times to explain this but I end up burnt out, everyone suffers including me. I just left one role bc of it and now this new role, same thing. I’m over it.

I'm at a smaller MM bank. My original goal was to start here and hustle through into a BB, but I wasn't expecting to really like the people (my team, my direct seniors). I think the work we do probably wouldn't differ a crazy amount (we close deals, just smaller of course) and I'm wondering if I really have a reason to try to move into a bigger bank.
