This sounds like a great way to guarantee you don't get elected just by voting for it
Honestly, I think it makes sense. People aren’t going to want to hear it, but disabled means you can’t work.
I get 30%, which is ridiculous aside from the fact I don’t need the money. I give all of that to veteran related charities because I don’t deserve it and don’t want their money.
If you’re asking, I only applied with the VA hoping to get a rating on my back which flying helicopters damaged pretty good. I didn’t want to be a 60 year old at some point trying to get coverage if it became untenable.
u making me cringe bro
at least use half of it on a sb or 2
How about we propose budget cuts to Congress, Senate or the representatives? No? Why do veterans who give their youth for the safety of their country and to further it's progress need to take a compensation cut when we have a far higher percentage of people who can't play with their children because of hurt bodies or hurt minds.
The money has never been solely about us more being able to work. If that were the case reducing those same politicians who act like children when decisions need to be made would make perfect sense, since they aren't *working".
Veterans have sacrificed parts of their bodies, sadly for some, their minds too. We were underpaid for jobs we were active and nearly none received adequate health-care and still don't.
"We owe you a debt we can't pay" has always been facetious word service to our military veterans.
Meanwhile they use taxpayer dollars to fly around for whatever event and pay for their staff
The VA Secretary said absolutely not to this option to cut spending.
That said, it is an idea, but the execution is poor. I would increase the income level to at least 500k annually.
However, my main gripe with this is that it wouldn’t be used to save, it would be used to justify spending elsewhere.
“Hey, we just cut $100b over the next 10 years by slashing veteran disability payments, now it’s okay to send over $125b to Balakalakastan to help them curb their current regime.”
To that I say, oh fuck no.
Overall, can this cut our country’s spending? Sure can! But there are literally thousands of other programs that should come before this idea, and even more future-spending ideas that should be thrown in the trash before even thinking of slashing veteran disability.
$125k thresh-hold? Seriously? A family of 6 on 125k HHI in NYC is literally in poverty. Yeh, lets cut their compensation so we can fund the Frogs Being Friends study in west Austrailia.
Couldn't agree more, it should either be much higher OR have some cost of living logic built in, similar to how the VA home loan eligibility is adjusted based on zip code.. they clearly already have the data needed to decide what is and isn't high cost of living, so it wouldn't be too hard to scale the threshold appropriately... But that also adds a layer of complexity that probably isn't worth it.
This screams “let’s protect our own (government) and take away from veterans”. There are so many other ways to reduce spending but they decide to take away from veterans lol wtf
I am glad EYP-1 30% disabled doesn’t mean he can’t work. Other people’s 30% or more might just mean their ability to work is severely impacted. His PULHES rating may not matter for his job but if your previous skills are impacted by a service connected disability, it might literally mean you can’t do your old job anymore. The rating percentage doesn’t tell the whole story.
Then add in various documented discrimination and subsequent rating battles and yeah, I think it is unfair to ask people to defend their country, put people i charge who break them and then turn around and say “yeah we don’t want to pay. Thank you for your service.” I swear they look at increasing veteran suicide and homeless rates as a metric of success.
Not every job has the same impact on the mission nor on the person conducting the mission. Don’t presume others’ sacrifices.
Hadn't heard this, I'll have to look it up. What's the TLDR version?
Ok I feel better now. This is basically a study on what would happen if they took these actions. It also says that it should NOT be considered a recommendation by the CBO. This is a nothing burger.
Nothing quite says thank you for your service like cutting disability payments. Maybe they shouldn’t have spent 20 years sending people to Iraq and Afghanistan?
Anyone have a link? I'm unable to find it.
