Lots of ppl will probably chime in about how they worked 60 hours a week and still passed but I think realistically, if plausible, dedicating as much time to passing the first time is more valuable than a minimum wage job. I understand this isn’t a choice for a lot of ppl but if you’re asking the question I’d say don’t do it.
Would I still be considered employed if I do this
Op there are few things to consider here. First, are you currently employed by KPMG? If yes, then ask them to put you on reduced schedule, maybe, at 50% or whatever suits you. This way you will be making decent money and can study for exam.
Second, if you have not started full time and can survive financially, push the start date and sit home and get the CPA done.
Third, if you are working full time, you can ask for sabbatical and can take up to 16 weeks and still get paid 25%.
It’s up to you to decide which route to take but everyone is different and it is ok to take some time to pass CPA. I have seen good people leaving because they don’t have CPA and can’t become managers. DM me if you want more details as I work for KPMG and has gone through the same process few years ago. Good luck 👍
I agree with PwC 1. I made the mistake of starting work right after my masters thinking that I would be able to juggle CPA and work at the same time. That didn’t happen and I still don’t have my CPA. I would take the summer off and just focus on the CPA and get done with it, if I were you. Trust me, you don’t want that shit hanging over your shoulders.
Plus life is still pretty good that summer. I managed to slip away to the beach and get rounds of golf in while still studying
What’s your plan? Quit KPMG, be a bank teller and pass CPA, and then....profit? Go back to KPMG? A different Big 4?
I feel like you’re better off just using your vacation time to cram and pass
I got lucky and got a job after college, 40 hours a week. Studied 3 hours after work M-F & 12 hours on the weekend. Ultimately, it depends on what you can handle. You don't want to walk into a testing center feeling not prepared to pass. Failing would be a huge mental blow to forward progress.
Depends on your personal style. I’m assuming that you’re asking if you should reduce the amount you’re working (rather than you’re not working and should you pick up part time work). The more I have to do, the more I focus on things, and I get shit done. If I’m not as busy, I feel like there’s not as much pressure and I don’t stay as focused.
