We had our holiday party this week and HR made the announcement that some people had organized an after party at a local Chinese restaurant/dive bar that people go to often apparently. This HR person said that the limit was 2 Mai Tais, not because the company was paying for it but because that's how strong the drinks are.

We later found out that some people also call that bar the "roofie bar" because it has a reputation.

This is my first year with this company 🙃

There have to be some kind of legal ramifications for HR sending people to the roofie bar.

likefunny

HR said people were organizing and they were not hosting or paying. That could be their statement to avoid liability. Regardless if people don’t want to go or don’t want to drink then don’t go. Shouldn’t prevent other people from having fun!

Did you go to the after party??

smart

Ha ha I did not. I had another holiday event so I didn't go. My company's holiday party was during the work day

Many bars have a 2 mai tai limit. It’s not uncommon

Rookie? As in rophylin? The drug that knocks you out and when you wake up you will have no memory of what happened.

If you do billable work on a given PTO/vacation day, do you still count that day as vacation? Or do you get that vacation day "back"? Or do you only get the part that you billed "back"? (Or some other option.)

How much stock do you put on benefits? I have two offers with stark differences in benefits. Job 1: role I want, but benefit sucks (2 weeks paternity leave, 20% coinsurance). Job 2: role is okay but higher level and great benefits (16 weeks paternity, 0% coinsurance, 5 more days of vacation). Total comp is the same though. I wonder if I should just focus on role but Job 2 is a large company, so I can move around after 2-3 years I’d expect. Thoughts?

For all you retail people...are you experiencing a very slow holiday season? I am a retail manager and I feel like this season has been freakishly slow. I thought we would at least match last year's number or be up a little bit but we are trending down. I talked to employees of other stores in the mall and they are saying the same thing. Is anyone else experiencing this in their market?
