I got an email last night from a 7th-grade parent because her son said I mentioned the words "male privilege" in class, and she is very concerned about how that is related to ELA (she said "reading"), and she is concerned about this being taught in public schools. To be clear, I didn't do a lesson on this subject but we did discuss rights versus privileges. I've had multiple parents contact the school/get upset with me because of things like his. It's exhausting... Thoughts?

One of my senior managers is a boomerang and told me she was laid off when she was 7 months pregnant about 10 years ago. I think she was a senior or manager. She was in a specific group and everybody was laid off. It wasn’t performance based.

Would you work at your company again if you were laid off?

Is sending kids to private school worth it? Talking about 25k-30k per year. Living inside city where public school are average. Thinking of sending kid to international school with bilingual program (family speaks multiple languages)…. The money adds up a lot over a lifetime. Especially if we have more than 1 kid.

I hope my father dies before my mom. Otherwise he’d consider it my duty to drop my life & move home to cook & clean for him, like my mother does. My mom works full time but is expected to take care of all things in the house, as well as do the accounting for my father’s business. He’s helpless without her, & is a sexist asshole. (IE my mom sprained her wrist and has carpel tunnel but she’s still expected to wash his dishes and he refuses to just buy a dishwasher). Please God, let him die first.

It only took me 7 years to figure this system out.... posting in case it helps anyone else! I color coded my classes and printed off numbers according to the number of kids in my classes. I then assign each kid a number that corresponds with my gradebook. When they turn in their projects, they put their number with it. This way, no contact and I can easily see who has and hasn't turned in their projects yet. I take the list down once they remember their number.

How does a sole engineer at a company go about getting management to actually care how production machines run? I’m the only mechanical engineer at my company dealing with a half dozen cranky production managers who think that I can “work my magic” on a machine. My boyfriend and I make 200K combined and live in NJ. We have $1000 in monthly car payments combined. That’s all we owe. Our credit scores are in the 800s. We have 50K to put down on a home. We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

I have a LOT of credit card debt. It has just grown over time and I can’t find my way out. I’m considering debt consolidation, specifically a company called National Debt Relief which seems legit but I’m just so hesitant because I’m scared to make my situation worse. Or a personal loan to pay off all the CC debt and then have a smaller all in one payment. I’m intelligent and I work in finance, it’s so embarrassing. HELP.

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.
