Well, my love for accounting screwed me. I started pursuing ACCA after my undergrad hoping to have a career in Audit. Few months into my articles I realised, this is not for me. There is more documentation than Accounting.
I tried shifting to advisory but they didn't let me.I completed my contract two months ago and trying to get out of this. Nobody considers me a candidate for TAS because my prior work experience is of Audit.

What should I do to change this and get a job in TAS?!

You’re spot on, audit is mostly documentation. You may be lucky and land a analyst or associate position in TAS but it is easier after a couple years in audit to transfer.

Interesting... almost everyone in my group has an auditing background. It's actually preferred because it builds a solid accounting foundation.

At what point does the value of a degree fall off? I'm in my early 30s, and have five years of experience, and work on a very theoretically interesting project. Is this FOMO or is there real opportunity here?

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money.
