Lol you earned it didn’t you? The people telling you not to are probably north of 50 and grew up in a different time

Yeah you’re fine

You are entitled to take your entire vacation balance. And you should do it to establish boundaries.
You shouldn’t care whatsoever about people thinking it’s “a little ambitious”. It’s time you earned, and making sure you are recharging is a key component to not burning out in this career.
Now, I had an associate join in the summer and then take an entire month off in the fall. That wasn’t ideal and it wasn’t a strong long-term play for her career at our firm. But that’s an entire order of magnitude different from taking the time that you earned at the firm.

It didn’t work out for her at all.
When I realized the impact, I rolled her off my engagement (not out of spite, but I couldn’t afford to train someone, only for them to leave for 6 weeks and I have to back fill them immediately).
She left the firm within a year. I’m sincerely unsure of whose choice it was.

Do it
Ofcourse you’re entitled to your vacation time.
NAMR work culture is so gross. Took 6 weeks in my first year and still made early promotion (EU here).

Take whatever vacation you accrue whenever you accrue it. People who see vacation time=lazy employee are toxic
Yes lol
Certainly acceptable to take a week. 2 weeks in year one is a little ambitious unless it’s over Christmas break where there is already a lot of baked in time off

Summers can be extremely slow too. Most firms I’ve worked for let you go 2 weeks in the negative too, so I’d say for 6 months you could comfortably take 2 weeks off and call it a year. Maybe sneak in a day here or there around big holidays

Give ample notice and make sure there is coverage. People won't even notice
Holidays should be provided by the company, so 100% take them. If you are looking to do vacations or just some days off in addition to firm Holidays… then also 100% take it. You’ve earned the time as an employee of the company, time off is part of your compensation, so use it same as you spend the money in your paycheck

You are entitled to use the time you have earned. If you’re worried about how it’ll make you look (which you shouldn’t), then give as much advance notice as possible so the team can make sure coverage is set when you do take the time off. Everything is seamless by then and no one is caught off guard suddenly.
