How do you all tackle people who come back into your life when it’s convenient for them? My former friend from college has been pushing to do zoom calls with my friend group. She doesn’t live in the same city as the rest of us and before COVID, she wasn’t involved with our lives. Now that her friends in her city are MIA, she wants to reconnect with the group but she makes insensitive comments and I just don’t have interest in being her friend. How do I convey this to my friend group?

I’m a third-year associate with an Am Law 200. I took this job right out of law school thinking it'd be more general practice but wasn't fully informed I'd be doing basically solely transactional corporate/M&A. My goal has always been to do more litigation, and I've learned that I really can't stand transactional work. There aren’t any litigation opportunities for me within my firm, so I need to look elsewhere. Any advice on non-firm or alternative career paths that might be worth considering?

I have ten years experience at my company as a lead engineer. My old boss recently retired after being diagnosed with cancer. He was like the dad I never had and it’s been hard losing him as a manager. The new boss is an ex ceo who sold his company and just needed a job to keep him busy. He frequently refers to me as “sport”, “squirt”, “champ” and “little boy” even though he is 5 years younger. I asked him to stop but he just sucked his lips at me and stared me down until I began to cower.

In the S&O practice and have not been staffed since mid March. Since then been doing 50-60 hrs a week on BD (I’m a Manager for reference). Utilization was around 100% back in March currently 70%.
