Health insurance is a commonly negotiated benefit. Ask if you can port the life insurance policy. Vision and dental insurance are often affordable for the employer. You can negotiate to extend coverage. What benefits are you interested in continuing?

COBRA Subsidy is very common to be negotiated during a layoff. COBRA allows them to continue the same medical, dental, and vision after eligibility as an employee ends. I have seen as little as 1 month and as much as 18 months of subsidy offered. Just depends on the situation.
As to Do/Do Nots, really it comes down to two things:
Be respectful
Communicate clearly
