I'm in Risk Advisory (IA/SOX) at 4YOE with no CPA myself, on the edge of promotion to Manager - no CPA really required since it's not attestation work. May want to still go for some certs down the line (CIA / CISA), but they're much cheaper and less studying required - not because the work requires it, but because hiring managers may value you more as a candidate for it. Happy to answer questions!

No CPA here either but spent 15yrs at two CPA firms.
I worked my way up to senior basically from scratch (was an admin at my first firm) and this is only the second CPA firm that I’m at - 10yrs here. Reason I’m still there is very simple: I work 100% remote and flex hours. I know full well I’m underpaid. If another firm gave me same but more $$$ I’d go there but so far all I get are bait and switch offers for “hybrid” or in office, and in the interests of my health, I refuse to go back to an office setting again.
Any other ideas haha
If you want to make more money for less WLB, go to consulting/banking. If you want more WLB with the same/slightly more money, do industry. Everything else might require more ground work (networking, certifications, loosely connected work to show interest, grad school) to facilitate a career pivot.
