Telcos generally offer many of tech's perks without the rigidity of tech thinking.
Retail, I've always found simultaneously dull and chaotic. Never again.
Charity, zero perks, low pay and as cutthroat as any corporation.
Editorial, don't bother - they're all broke.
Once was enough.
Avoid scrappy start-ups unless you’re really young or you come in at C-suite level. I made that mistake a few years back. The pay seems high only because you’ll be doing the jobs of three people. Zero work-life balance and all for the (likely false) pipe dream that one day there’ll be a huge IPO or buy-out. I mean. It happens, sure, but there are a lot of overworked and underpaid ppl who didn’t make a dime.
In house is where it’s at. Good people, still a lot of work sometimes, but decent pay and worthwhile in the end. You get to do your marketing stuff with a lot less ego.
I made that mistake too, I have to say I learned a lot but it didn't make my title grow. But I met people that actually made it in a better company so they built their team and that start-up, in the end, was good for their career.
I’ve enjoyed tech so far. Just gotta choose companies whose leadership care about brand
