Hello All, I wanted to know if anyone could give me some info about tech sales and how lucrative it can be. I am really thinking of pursuing a new career and tech sales is it. The other option though is sales engineer. Need to know about the best schools and all. Thanks

Don't think schools matter with regards to sales, engineering I can't speak to.

So there tech sales and then there is a sales engineer

Thank you very much, also I have about 5years of great sale experience already, what kind of salary or base pay do they start you off with in tech sales?

Why are you interested in either?

Place of education doesn't matter too much. What's more important is drive and willingness to learn. You'd likely start as an SDR and make anywhere between 50-70K in your first year.

Well the reason for my interest is that I love sales and love tech. It’s the future

At VMware, enterprise sales AEs generally make $350k OTE (on target earnings) via $175k base salary and $175k commissions at 100% quota achievement. Enterprise sales quotas on the Core Sales (not Renewals) side are usually in the $8M+/yr net new bookings range. But the company is being acquired by Broadcom, so future comp plans are not known right now.

Asking for a friend:
My friend received two job offers for Account Executive roles: a Mid-Market role with Confluent and an Enterprise role with ThoughtSpot. He’s conflicted because Confluent is a more established company, ThoughtSpot is Pre-IPO. Confluent is a lucrative product to sell and has established SDR reps so there’s a good blend of inbound and outbound sales. Thoughtspot is more of a startup culture where most of the sales comes from outbound and it’s a tougher sell.
