Sounds like a leadership role. One earns those roles by many years of consistently exceeding those same targets (and helping others meet/exceed theirs).
Yeah, heavy hitters just get put in front of bigger pitchers. Nobody asks the rainmaker to stop making rain.

EY partner here. The only partners in Consulting without individual revenue targets are senior leadership (SSL and higher for the most part) or internal roles at area level like QRM, markets, etc. The rest of us have market facing goals.

Not really. If you’re with EY, you know who these people are and there aren’t that many. Certainly not as a % of our consulting PPs.
Your fellow partners decide that that’s the place where you do least harm …

I honestly can’t think of one partner for whom this is the case for similar reasons OP alludes to. There are too many good hungry partners behind them for someone to be taking up space in an inconsequential leadership role. Nor do I think it harder to fire women.
And we’re supposed to be the nice ones. 😀
Of course, I don’t know all of the partners.
Compliance functions, e.g. independence have a ton of partners that don't do client service

Recall seeing somewhere that McK doesn’t have revenue targets.

Work at the right firm. We don’t have targets. There are definitely others like that too.

I mean, I can’t argue with partially-informed anecdotes about your friends and family. I’m aware of plenty of people who have made it to AP and to P without massive financial figures and others with strong financials who didn’t make it or who took an extra year or two to make it because there were other gaps in their profiles.
Saying that we don’t have targets (true!) doesn’t mean that we don’t care about or pay attention to financials. We aren’t fools. The point is that financials are just one input of many and the positive and negative decisions we make about partnership demonstrate that year after year.
It’s also untrue that our rough financial norms are somehow unreasonable or unattainable. We just announced our largest-ever AP and P groups by a significant margin, and that’s true across geographies. It isn’t easy to get there, but it’s not supposed to be easy.
Go internal? Focus on marketing, brand, maybe thought leadership, or a bundle of recruiting/HR/people/learning/training. Major internal initiative leadership possibly.
