WLB in government accounting is actually just boredom-induced depression. I left a high-stress audit role for a state job, and while I leave at 4:30 PM every day, I spend about six hours a day staring at the wall. The lack of urgency is driving me crazy. I’m worried my skills are going to atrophy. Is there a middle ground between 80-hour weeks and doing absolutely nothing?

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.
