Thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated! If you guys have worked with agents before, do you find they are well worth it for the clients? Obviously when talking about health insurance everything is circumstantial (pre existing conditions, age, etc..) however for a normal, healthy adult it seems like the industry is pretty commoditized.
Don't do it. Get a health insurance agent to do it and have him just take the commission and hope for referrals back your way, or ask for a finders fee.
I was once told by someone in that business that there is no money in it for them to write health insurance policies for individuals. Takes too much time and pays too little. You might try gathering names and phone numbers of insurance companies and handing the client the list.
Be focused. You are better off using it as a networking tool and leaving Health Insurance to people who are experts at it. Just be sure to know enough to have an intelligent conversation with clients. Its like estate planning - you can show your value by talking in somewhat general terms about different trusts and how they serve as solutions. But when it comes to drawing up a trust doc, and deciding which type is most appropriate, i would leave that to the attorney that i refer to, and that refers to me.
I️ don’t get involved with it. I️ refer it out. I️ work with a guy from US Health, it’s private insurance available in most states. Uses Signa Network and is definitely Cheaper than Cobra.
Refer to a broker in your area, but it may be hard because the insurance companies have slashed commissions under ACA plans to practically nothing. I now outsource some of this to KindHealth for individual and family market and advise personally on Medicare. I just helped a 37 year old guy in my area that retired early from Apple. Now he is moving all his stock in over to me. Pitched him on loan product so he wouldn't have to sell all his stock to fund business startup.
