Yes. Write it like an ad. Keep it concise, confident, and keep 'em hungry for more. Alter the content/tone based on the agency/personnel. Consumer agency? Go for broke (NOT LONG). Pharma? Down a few notches, let them know you've got creative kick but containable. Are you sending it to an HR person, or a CD? Lastly, feel free completely reinvent that bitch every 6months, it'll improve over time and evolve out of your jr stage.
I haven't written a cover letter in a decade.
I wrote a very specific cover letter to Riot Games (video game company) citing very specific references to their game in the context of the job. It caught their attention and I got interviews before they realized I wasn't a "good fit"
To be honest no one reads a cover letter and only skims a resume.
"Nobody reads the copy."
I like it to show off my writing while also showing my knowledge of the company. I do think writing a creative, personalized cover letter helps.
