I’ve had my eye on a “Delivery Transformation Change and Communications Consultant” position at Deloitte. Does anyone work here that could give some insight into this position/department or one like it? And is there anyone who has worked in marketing and shifted to communications/consulting…what are your thoughts on a career shift?

There are firm titles/levels and project structure and titles/roles/levels. They do not always equate. I’ve been on projects where managers report to managers, senior managers report to an overall lead senior manager.
Just be sure to continue solid /above and beyond delivery. Don’t stoop to bad mouthing and manipulating others - take the high road. Leadership team is often more aware of team dynamics and behaviors than you think.
Roll them from your workstream 😷
Take the high road but also coach them if they’re walking on you and negatively impacting the project. Follow up with email notes after every call. Protect yourself and the team, but do so humbly and gracefully.
Call them out on their mis representation of facts and the I appropriate stepping out their role without direction. Cite examples and ask them their motivation. Be empathetic but make it clear it ends. In the end it should go into their review.
I felt bad because SC hadn’t had a long term role in 6 months and I thought I’d take SC’s role from them. I told them we can work together and co-lead.
Every day would say things like “You did great, eventually you’ll get the hang of this.” or “I should have been leading this but it not your fault, you just got lucky.” or they’d just be very negative about pretty much anything I said. Whenever we’d get in front of client SC would point out things I didn’t know or correct me in front of client. At one point laughingly telling client that “X’ll eventually figure this out.” Would attend meetings we weren’t invited to in order to “represent workstream.”
I found out that SC lied and hadn’t been slated for the role, ever. SC is bad mouthing another workstream lead to leadership - so I’m fairly certain they’re badmouthing me too. It’s like a combination of trying to undermine our confidence, make us look bad in front of client and just general bitterness and negativity and it’s taking away from my being able to focus on project. SC claims to “know everyone” and out ranks me in seniority and job level.
What would you do?
(And be empathetic!)
