MBB vs Big 4 Discussions

What other consulting firms have a prominent supply chain consulting practice besides MBB, the Big 4 accounting firms, and Kearney?

Currently a senior audit associate at a Big Four. 4 YOE primarily in the Federal Government (DoD) and business process improvement. What are my chances of even being selected for an interview at a MBB in the Washington DC area? Mainly looking at McKinsey.

Ex-Big 4 folks at MBB: how has the experience been for you so far? Any of you been in a situation where you’re coming to a MBB in a lower role but have excelled in moving up quickly? (Or not.) Thinking about making the leap but would love to hear if the MBB hype was worth it. (FWIW: My work hours are 65-80/wk so I’m pressed to think it’ll be that much worse on the other side.)

Is it too soon to recruit? Have an opportunity to interview at MBB.

2 years no promotion, lateraled to current role for <1 at another Big 4 with a promotion upcoming.

Very fond of my team, role, and growth and not looking to betray them or be labeled a job hopper or flight risk.

Still have many particular things I want to learn here (courses, tools, certifications) and want to show growth on my CV. Would it be best to wait for a promotion and over 1 YOE before recruiting?

What companies pay for some or all of your MBA if you join? (Not counting sponsorship)

E.g., Deloitte used to cover half the fees if you interned and then joined full time.

Does it make sense to move to Kearney from Accenture Strategy as a 2nd year partner? How does total comp and growth vary? I see a lot of partners move to Accenture/Big 4 /MBB. Not sure of profiles that join Kearney as a Partner

IMHO, our stint in consulting’s purpose is to develop a corporate strategy skillset. Doing CDDs is one of if not the best way to get a ton of reps and variety in our 18 - 24 month tenure.

With options among MBB, T2 incl S&, EYP, and general Big 4 / ACN MC:

- Take MBB (can ask for CDD, overall better comp package)
- Reject B4 MC (won’t get it here)
- T2 (pick other T2s if you want way more strategy projects that aren’t CDD / growth strategy)

Has anyone here moved from from Big 4 TS to MBB without MBA?

Do M7 AOs treat EYP and S& as legit tier 2 (i.e. second to MBB) or just slightly fancier big four consulting? Trying to evaluate an offer and not sure how much MBA placement advantage that gives. If no major advantage I’d rather give a shot to MBB. T20 undergrad and 3.9 GPA, ORM, if that matters.

How hard is it to move to FAANG from a relatively unknown boutique consulting firm? Are there extra leaps compared to MBB or Big 4, or if you get a referral you have similar odds?

Is there in MBB/Big 4 (manager +) that focuses in delivery only and has 0 sales attached to it?

Where does true mission related gov strategy consulting work take place? I’ve heard this question asked and the collective answer was Booz but wondering if any other firms do this/are even trusted to do this? I respect that it would take a lot of trust to put their mission in the hands of a consulting firm...
Nothing against Booz, just have heard that over and over and am wondering about any other options...mbb? Boutique? Other big 4? Feel like I have to hunt for it at Deloitte TIA

Anyone have perspective on how MBB (specifically Bain) benefits are better than big 4? I heard Bain contributes 4.5% of salary to your 401k regardless of any employee contributions, which is great. Any other big perks that make their benefits package superior to others (eg. Big 4)?

Doing some benchmarking. Home grown, TC progression in a strategy / consulting role in consulting, Big 4, MBB, the rest in Canada. Sample -> Analyst (62k), Consultant (70-75k), SC (80-85k), M (100-110K), SM (140 to 190K), Partner (250k onwards)

Big 4 Strat —> MBA —> MBB...common path?

So I’m in industry from big 4, and a colleague with same yoe comes from MBB. High paying tech firm. I think I work harder and produce quality content at speed, but they can hold executive conversations that tend to impress senior stakeholders.

Big 4 produces work horses and MBB produces leaders. Also they could be a work horse too since I don’t have full visibility.

Anyone have similar experiences or do I just suck at executive stakeholder management?

What’s the salary band for someone in the Washington DC area at a senior 2 rank with 4 years of federal DoD audit moving into DoD audit readiness consulting position? Do Big 4/tier 2/MBB firms provide services to the DoD or other federal entities?

Interviewing for an Associate Partner role at MBB, currently big 4 SM with base at $240k. What would be a good base? The range online is pretty vast. 11 yrs consulting experience + 5 years industry prior to consulting. Thanks
