MBB vs Big 4 Discussions

Is GMAT score a criteria for shortlisting by MBB and Big 4 consulting if you are from top 15 US Bschools.
This is w. r. t. ongoing GMAT waiver at top Bschools and how it may impact placements/employment.

Moving from a boutique (<30 employees, MBB competitor) to the strategy practice of a Big 4. Have only worked for boutiques in the past, so I’m expecting there to be some major differences in terms of working style.

What are the major differences and ‘watch outs’ you would point out to me? Could be anything from culture, to red tape, to compliance etc.

Just got an offer from PwC for Management Consulting in DDV practice (Their name for M&A Advisory) in Chicago (I am not from there) and wanted to know what a normal salary range looks like (Compared to other Big 4 and MBB) as well as whether or not I can negotiate the salary and signing bonus - all information and advice appreciated!

I’m considering getting an MBA soon, let’s say next 2 years, but also want out of my current job (Big 4). Does it make sense to try and make the MBB jump before doing the MBA even if it will only be for a short time (1.5 years or so)?

I know the big 4 are hiring like crazy. Are MBB also hiring at a similar pace?

Does anyone know if MBB (Toronto) is hiring a lot these days?

Currently working at big 4 (manager) with no case interview experience/ no mba … thinking it would at least take me 2-3 months to prep and network. Would trying to get in by Jan be too late?

Also, my spouse is thinking of potentially moving to the states next year. Do you know if US MBB helps new hire with their H1B visa? (Understand it may be difficult but want to check if it’s worth trying)

Out of boutique and bigger firms (i.e., MBB, Big 4, etc), which firm would have the best focus on life sciences commercial strategy or pricing/market access? Coming with 1 YOE from big pharma in MA and ~1 YOE from a boutique LS firm. Thanks!

Hi all. Posting this for my sibling who graduated from an Ivy in 2020 and is at a small consulting firm doing due diligence work for PE clients. Shes been in the role for 11 months and looking to transition to larger strategy firm to move from diligence work (brutal hours and repetitive work) to broader range of projects. Discussion post: I feel almost all consulting firms are the same. Mbb, big 4 etc. if you are paid enough there is probably less wlb. If there is good wlb there is not much money. Can you single out a company that you can confidently say pays very well and also has good wlb and also has good opportunities etc.?

Humble question: How do you know you're good enough?

I'm a high performer at a local boutique firm in South Africa, looking to apply internationally at MBB/Big 4/Tier 2 (recruitment esp. international is a separate discussion). Since I've only ever been with one firm, I don't have a yardstick to compare myself to. I'm concerned about whether I match up with my peers at other firms.

Any advice, experience or 2c on the above is appreciated.

For data science roles, senior (L6) at AWS or post MBA level (specialist track, so same pay as generalists) at MBB? Comp is 20% higher at AWS just to start.

But maybe looks like MBB has better upside - solid path to promotion to manager level with solid comp increase. But worse WLB and it's unclear to me whether MBB data scientist on the resume is up to par with big tech data scientist on the resume.

Coming from big 4 so I am considering brand so I can do better with future resume screens.

Would anyone that has moved from Big 4 to MBB be willing to chat for 15-30 minutes? I’m hitting a point where I am enjoying consulting (advisory) but I’m not sure the idea of narrowing in on a specific industry and exact skillset appeals to me. Seems like MBB is broader and I’m curious (also not assuming I could even get in, but I want to explore the option).

Been working on mostly (about 70%) public sector policy and strategy at Big 4 for most of my career. Often go up against MBB on RFPs and have a decent win rate. Would I be too senior to come in as a lateral hire? I guess it’s all about client networks at this level, and being government, it’s locationally dependent - so which markets have need?

After being in Fishbowl for sometime, I see everyone has something (or many things) they don't like about their company (even MBB, Big 4). From outside those companies look like potential employers for candidates.

I know grass is always looks greener (sometimes actually greener) on the other side.

But what are good consulting firms which is basically perceived good both by employees and potential candidates?

Trying to make a jump from Big 4 Strategy to MBB in NYC, anyone know of any off-cycle processes or got any recommendations? Any help is much appreciated.
