Any one getting dressed up for Zoom interviews?

Is there any good slack channels for digital / PR agency owners in the states? Looking to join a support group of owners on how to manoeuvre when scaling

I work in a group that has had to come in to the office regularly during COVID (lots of work with original documents and wet ink signatures). It’s real estate and title companies still require wet ink documents. One junior has refused to come in because he says he’s concerned about COVID. We all wear masks, close our doors, and socially distance. We’ve all had to pick up the slack for him. Just found out he’s taking his second vacation during COVID and visiting family in FL. I could scream.

Tips for building relationships up, down and across when staring a job remote? Obviously I can set up one-on-one zoom calls, but anything a little different that seems to have worked well?

Any advice on quitting without a two week notice? I’m at a regional boutique and we’ve had 3/4 of our other analysts leave and I’ve had to pick up the slack with no comp increase. I’m absolutely done and do not want to give a notice. My associate or VP who left earlier this year can be used as a reference so I’m not worried about that. Is there anything else I should make sure of before I leave?

Novice investor here so please bear with me. I opened a vanguard account dec 2019 and invested around $1K..over the course of the year I invested about $68k.. I just checked the total gains and it shows about $10k. That’s about 14% gain via investment in small amounts in vgt, zoom, tsla, ark, vtsax etc..Is it fair to assume 15% gain year over year ?

I recently transitioned from Finance to Internal Audit. While I think this job is perfect for what I want during this stage of my career I feel like theres a stigma. Like this holiday during family zoom calls I'll tell relatives I stwrted a new job during WFH and when I mention it is Internal Audit I get mildly disgusted looks or "oh boy, I hate auditors" responses. Since the holiday season is almost over can you share how you respond to that? Or do you tell people you work "in compliance"?

I plan to teach maths to my 8th grader and her friends over the zoom. Any paid website recommendations where I can get the slides on different topics and relevant exercise sheets? Which website do you use with your kids? I live in California.

Whats the laptop and cell phone options that SF gives its employees? Im a Slack employee and we havent gotten this info yet. I know that SF will pay for the entire cell bill but do they also provide a new phone as well? If so what choices do we get? What are the laptop options?

HR and leadership denied my request for our company’s cell phone reimbursement ($60, but it’s still something) because they came to a conclusion that those who aren’t directors don’t use their phone enough for work purposes to warrant it. So I’m about to delete my work email, Zoom, Slack, etc. from my phone. Guess if they need to get ahold of me, they have to wait until I get on my computer.

How do you remove a message you sent on Skype? I thought it was right click remove message but I don’t see that option when I right click

Did any one else’s firm just not engage with them during the majority of the WFH period? While when the lock down first happened we had a few zoom get togethers, they quickly disappeared. I’m only a first year and while my practice group ended up being pretty busy I had been hoping for more engagement from partners/senior associates. While I would set up calls and they would say yes, I can’t help but feel ignored by the lack of outreach. Am I asking too much to expect at least a monthly checkin

What's your work from home setup for conference calls?

1. I have a Plantronics earpiece but both my clients and team have intermittently complained that I sound too far away. Not every call, but every 5th call. I suspect it might be due to my HP Elitebook. Any alternate setup without routing through my laptop directly?

2. I use Teams for almost all calls. For external calls, I switch to Skype. How do you all do it?

Anyone feel like they just aren’t a good attorney/cut out for being a lawyer? Started out doing corporate work, hated it. Switched over to litigation because I had originally went to law school thinking I wanted to be a litigator of some kind. About one year in, I work my tail off and have the reputation for doing so. Almost like clockwork my written work gets torn apart, and I make what i feel are stupid mistakes. I try to cut myself some slack because I’m junior but the doubt creeps in.

Do you have a hard time disconnecting while you’re on PTO? I’m one week in to almost two full weeks off but I feel compelled to check my email and slack multiple times a day. Do you legit delete outlook/slack from your phone? I want to enjoy my time off but it’s just a force of habit to check in at least every couple hours.

Has anyone taken a fully remote job (aka it’ll be remote post-covid)? Any regrets or advice?
From the physical standpoint, I know you can rent out spaces so you don’t have to wfh all the time but I value camaraderie. At my last new job I started during the pandemic, I was able to make one work friend and we’d do Zoom lunches and stuff. It helped to a degree but idk if I can last 1-3 years never working with another person in-person.

What is the most embarrassing thing you have accidentally shown on your computer to an audience when screen-sharing on Zoom/Teams?

Anyone know any good local bartenders/bars who are doing cocktail making classes via zoom? Hoping to organize an event for a group that I’m part of. We would pay obviously.

COVID helped us see that some meetings really could be emails.

ZOOM helped turn those emails back into meetings.

Apologies if below post sounds like a rant.
I just wanted to share an experience.
I was interviewing with BCN,it was second round of the process.
So this round was with a manager, who shows up 15 mins late on a 4 days prior scheduled zoom call.
Without asking anything about me, gives me a case to solve and says "solve it and I am working on a deliverable". After 15 mins comes back and rejects everything without listening anything properly and finishes the call.

Is everyone always on a video call at Google? Many other companies have communication around zoom/video call fatigue, but wondering if that culture has dipped into Google's at all?

Which agency does a great job in helping new hires get adjusted when first joining? Starting a new job on zoom seems hard.

Recently during a call of the list (massive zoom, attorneys check in for their cases) an attorney called me out prior to her checking in saying it looked like someone didn’t belong/should not be on the call - me! Obviously, my camera was on. It was clearly a racial incident & others reached out to me affirming/apologizing. The Chief Justice (a poc) “investigated” and concluded my camera was off and doesn’t want to disrupt the bar. The racist in question said she saw me. Do I elevate this issue?

Anyone here that recently interviewed with Slack and is willing to share their experience? Base comp seems pretty low but I understand they have some pretty generous quarterly bonuses.

Chief Justice of my jurisdiction says we will continue using zoom even after the pandemic subsides. Apparently there are benefits such as more defendants showing up for remote hearings. What about your jurisdictions?

People who schedule last minute zoom calls (and Insist video on) are getting coal for Christmas.

I signed up to put together this Trivia game for our holiday zoom meeting. And I have NEVER done this. Don't want to get overwhelmed by looking at Google. Anybody want to help me with this by giving some simple tips or guidance on where to get started?
