Almost done with second weeks in industry. I absolutely LOVE IT! Ive been making a point to reach out to people from different teams via Slack and arrange a quick meet and greet zoom call. Been introducing myself mostly to the heads of each department, head of marketing, head of sales, head of product development. to get a better idea of what everyone does, and asked sales/product for walkthroughs of the products so that I know exactly what we offer as a company

Hi! Is anyone using Microsoft Teams functionality with an Admin team specifically? Looking for some good use cases of anyone has any.

On zoom presentations to clients, does everyone on your team you keep the camera on the whole time, or only when speaking/presenters?

What are your pre-trial rituals? I used to have a whole thing I did from going to the office, getting my lucky coffee, waiting at the courtroom, etc., but now I just sit at my house feeling sick until it's time to sign onto Zoom

Feel like Worst part of audit is that nothing we do matters until it does (i.e. if shit hits the fan or get picked for inspection), so we can’t really slack off and have to work hard just in case.. but 99% of the time our work doesn’t matter... I spend so much time cleaning review notes from Managers, SM, partners that are just revising documentation. I know they are the ones that get in real trouble so I do what they want but still it sucks to work extra hours to make workpapers neat and pretty

How does one get past cold email rejections from applications? I have 5YOE at Deloitte and can’t even get a phone screen from Slack, Microsoft, FB, Google, etc.

Funniest/most awkward zoom incidents you’ve had thus far? Need some laughs or at least a chuckle.

My computer is closed and just connected to monitors it’s not even in front of me. I can usually dial in to all my meetings but sometimes client invites on Microsoft Teams have no dial in. Is there some device I can plug in that’s both a speaker and a microphone without creating echo? Don’t roast just helpful comments thanks.

Does anybody else intentionally join zoom calls one minute late to avoid all the awkward pre-meeting small talk? Or just me?

I have a direct report that needs an INCREDIBLE amount validation. On our team Slack, they even feel the need to announce that they were first in uncovering a tiny bit of information - “@boss I found this first!” - and they work to make sure they are acknowledged for such. We’ve had multiple conversations about the behavior - there is no need for it. They can be a team player, but can also be very quick to take all the credit. Any suggestions for how to get this person to a more confident place?

Agency leadership, can/do you read employees’ teams or slack messages? I don’t have anything “to hide,” but occasionally shoot the shit with my partner about co-workers and bosses. Am I putting myself at risk?

Anyone else at a firm so rooted in the past that you’re embarrassed explaining it to other attorneys?

Example: We are 10 months into COVID and my firm still hasn’t decided on/implemented a video meeting platform (Zoom, Teams, etc.). So if I want to have a video meeting I have to ask the other party to use their video services. And it’s not at all a funding issue.

In 2020 I was diagnosed with epilepsy. I have a number of seizures a day but don’t knowwhen I’m having them (EEG detected it). I started on meds and am feeling much better, however the only way to know if meds are 100% working is to go to hospital for 3 day EEG. I’m supposed to try to live my daily life as much as possible during EEG so I need to work. But can’t do zoom calls. I hadn’t planned on disclosing my diagnosis to my boss but now feel like I’m backed in a corner here. (Cont in comments)

I’ve been trying to grow a beard for a while now and I’m starting to get self conscious on zoom calls. I’ve been clean shaven my whole career, but now feel from an optics perspective that I’m not “well kept”.. anyone ever go through something similar? Are these things you notice on calls?

My agency is about to introduce slack, but they want to hear from us first. I never had any experience with it. While I mostly see this with good eyes, I also heard about enabling micromanaging and disrespect of your boundaries.

Wondering what your experience with it is?

My sister works at a company that is so backward and toxic it scares me. They didn’t have Skype before the pandemic and now use Zoom. She’s trying to get a laptop to WFH with b/c the one that they issued her is from 2005 and is a nightmare to work with, but her boss wants to save money and get her a desktop instead of a laptop b/c they won’t be working from home after COVID. However, he has no problem ordering the newest equipment and WFH himself even before COVID. All I gotta say is toxic.

What’s a reasonable price for online fitness classes? (Live sessions over zoom, with ~15 other participants max). Is $60/week (fixed) too high? I’ll likely join 2-3 sessions a week so it will be ~$20-30 per session.

If you miss a zoom meeting your bosses are on as well as other attorneys because you overslept where you were supposed to share some updates on cases you are working on as part of the conversation, do you apologize and tell them you missed your alarm OR make something up (white lie) of something that came up that you had to deal with?

Why do people dislike being on camera for meetings? For me, video at least gets closer to in-person interaction (you get body language, facial expressions, etc), whereas all Slack and voice-only calls just exacerbate the interpersonal challenges of remote work.
