New Year, New Opportunities! January to March is the BEST time to apply for jobs. As companies set new budgets and goals, many roles open up, making Q1 a prime time for recruitment. Employers seek talent to fill key positions early in the year, with less competition than in later months. Ensure your resume and LinkedIn are updated, and apply early in the week (Monday-Wednesday) to get ahead.

What is a reasonable pay increase + bonus? This will be my first pay increase. I make 70k and I will be starting my second year at big law (immigration). I had 2 years of prior experience before joining the firm. My manager rated me highest in all areas and mentioned she recommended me for promotion but it may not happen until next cycle since there are limited number of promotions to give. I will get a pay increase regardless so I want to negotiate in case I don’t get a “good” increase.

Does anyone have resources on understanding whether/how legal advocacy matters, how it actually achieves what it purports to achieve? Been doing this nearly 5 years now and just really don’t see how all the effort is worth it. I don’t get the sense that outcomes are impacted by skill level, work quality, time spent. Seems you can make your client’s case worse (e.g., by missing a deadline or some egregious error), but that’s about it. So, practice of law feels quite pointless. What am I missing?

Greetings from Madison, Wisconsin. I am a firm believer that this will not change for a long time, local TV will continue to live as long as we stand for it.
