Relatively new position at a coveted firm as their Marketing and BD manager. Have suffered burnout and depressive episodes previously: can feel the symptoms raising it’s head. Most importantly, struggling to tolerate how directors speak to me, whereas previously I wouldn’t take it personally and get on with it. Actively looking for a different position as I’ve come to discover this company exploits EME employees, but want to attempt to end on a “high note”.

Recently accepted a temp role as an HR admin for a former employer. Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review. She has since left the company, but there’s crazy turnover in the company & in the HR department in particular. Just that an HR coordinator resigned. Is it worth going back into a dumpster fire w/ no leadership to gain experience?

Would it be hard to get a exp associate role in advisory at a B4 as someone with about 10 months in audit at EY, 7 months experience in corporate accounting at a F300 and CPA? Hated my time at the F300 but had thought the grass would be greener in industry. Hi, do you know of any opening as a production manager making at least 120K? The environment where I'm currently working is getting more toxic than ever and they are expecting me to fill all the openings with the minimum wage. I've been in the same company for the last 7 years, but with all the pandemic still going on, nobody seems to understand that when you are short staffed is impossible to get the same results as when you are fully staffed. Thoughts on leaving PA primarily due to the metrics based culture (utilization, dtc, use of X digital tool, revenue, margin, etc). I find this aspect of PA stressful and exhausting but not sure if this is something you just get used to. Currently a manager and seems like the metrics just change over time / don’t get easier.

I recently had an initial interview for a technical recruiter position. The guy on the phone stated that this is not a 9-5 job and long hours are expected. I proceed to ask how much PTO is offered and he said that is not recommend within the first 6 months of working and the harder you work the more PTO you receive. From that conversation, I saw instant red flags. Any thoughts?

First-year tax staff that started end of Q3, and just had my first year-end performance evaluation meeting. Still a blank slate in terms of tax experience, but I honestly do have a slight interest in international tax. Brought it up and I was given some names to find some work opportunities in that area. Besides SALT, any other specialized areas I should try to get some experience in? Also open to any tips and tricks to help tailor my workflow and experiences for the months to come.

Is HNW tax a trap? It's my strongest skillset (including the soft-skills aspect of dealing with those clients) and I got appoached for a job that focuses more on HNW, but I don't know if it's a good idea to focus in on that direction at my career stage. (I think I'll follow up on the approach anyway because it's not 100% HNW.)

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?

Went from a big firm to work for a smaller firm. The people in the smaller firm are protective of their work and are good by their work too. I no longer feel chaos or stress. I am treated with respect and my schedule is more normal. I am even working more billable hours than before, but it feels like a seamless experience. I don’t work then past 5pm or anything out of the ordinary for this time of the year. I am so grateful!

Are there any tax professionals in the Lancaster, PA area that are looking to leave public? The recruiter for my company says there's no one out there and I get that a LCOL area in Pennsylvania won't have the applicant pool as a bigger city but I find it hard to believe there are no tax people available for the jobs we have.

Question for senior tax managers, tax directors, and higher in public accounting. Have you seen managers or senior managers in PA hired in tax who you feel know very little for the position, or does this happen only very rarely or never in your opinion?

Salaries for senior associate through senior manager at national tax office?

Am I understanding utilization rate correctly? It’s chargeable time over total time? Charged 40 hours and had 10 hours non-charge so my utilization is 80%? If so, wouldn’t it benefit me to understate non-charge hours so my utilization is higher since they only really care about chargeable time anyways? Charge 40 hours still but only put 5 hours non-charge for utilization to be 89% instead of 80%? Or am I misunderstanding how utilization works?
