1.5 Years Experience in Public T10, no cpa.
A financial accountant position is open for a company/industry that is growing in my area. 12 employees, 2 in which are accounting/finance. I would be the 3rd. 1 is the CFO and is retiring in 3 years, 2 has been doing the accounting but wants to transition to HR/Management if they hire another accountant. Basically a short path to controller. Job responsibilities are traditional accounting and financial modeling/fpa duties. Should I take it?

It wouldn’t be a short path to controller they would just put a job posting for one. You don’t really have enough experience to be a controller or have a CPA so I would assume they would bring in a controller or accounting manager from public accounting when person 2 switches to HR.

Why would they want you to be the controller if you don’t have your cpa and the experience that comes with it?

likehelpful

Sure the job open is for an accountant, but without a CPA, you’ve got a lot to prove before getting to Controller. I worked under a controller without a CPA, but was in the exam process. Smart as a whip. Really struggled doing both and regretted not getting his cpa sooner. Ultimately hindered his career since he wanted to move up.

Any advice in general for making the jump from more client servicing to advisory would be greatly appreciated.

Ideally I’d love to make my way towards either an Advisor or Strategist.
