I am seeing stellar returns and extremely low expense ratios but apparently since they're quantitatively managed algorithms, they don't account for things like corona for example.

I’m doing a mileage run to get 7k. Chi - fort Meyers to nyc is a decent amount of miles. I have a couple other trips planned so I’ll get there.
Also, is it worth it...idk. Flying chi - Lga people with 1k have to fight to get upgraded.
I feel it’s totally worth it. Benefits that I really find useful are free same day flight changes, boarding in group 1, ability to choose economy seats during booking and star alliance gold.
I was offered pqms at 10 cents per mile to 25 cents. Range is huge. Also, you get the option to purchase pqm only if you have a flight coming up. Some people mentioned that you can make a booking, purchase pqm and then cancel the flight. I am not sure if that works though.
You can’t just buy the PQMs needed to qualify. Mikes that your purchase don’t count towards status. You need to take a trip. That’s being said a quick cross country flight should get you there. Or a 1500 miles or so each way in an upgraded cabin should do it.
United Gold isn’t great but every bit of status helps if your fly often enough. If you’re flying out of o’hare mostly you shouldn’t plan on too many upgrades. But at least you’ll get more miles for each flight that can be used for personal award travel (which I hope is really the ultimate goal. Not just domestic upgrades).
