After 6 years in Consulting (MBB), manager level, a newborn and my wife at home: Option A) dream location, pay 90k MBA debt out of pocket, get unemployment benefits (120K p.y over 1,5 years) + do some freelance work (at 1-1.5k/day) + look for a new job . Option B) go back to a geo I hate, get 120K salary (but 60% cost of living vs option A), and 90K MBA paid over 2 years, and career progression (not sure I want to do consulting for the long term). Thoughts?

If you've been in MBB for 6 years and are at the manager level then why is your target comp only $120k?

like

Exactly, geo B sponsored my MBA and it’s non US/non Europe — that’s why cost of living is 60% vs option A

120k per year in unemployment 🧐 where can I sign up?

like

See above :-)

Are you UK and is this in pounds? Otherwise wouldn’t make sense.

like

Geo A si Europe but como is low because it’s unemployment benefits, geo B is outside Europe / USA

For me this would be the question: will I be happier in scenario A or B? There is your answer

Hard to tell however as both scenarios are radically different. It’s a change of geo (clear winner), a substantial financial hit and career security / progression —- am I willing to pay the price for the better geo? Idk

Where can you get 18 months of unemployment

So you are going to IMD for an MBA

Where/how would you plan to get freelance work? With former clients?

There are a thousand networks reaching me already to put me as freelance for random work e.g, comatch

However, a bit confused if I should try and recruit with MBB’s or if I should accept the big 4 offer already and take the sign on bonus?

Would it be a blunder to NOT try recruiting with MBB’s ? Besides the monetary aspect, what are the other things I’d have to think about?

Just wondering what opportunities are there for junior to mid career professionals in US international tax to work abroad in UK or Australia? Additional Posts in Consulting

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
