1. Much easier to get a job when you have a job
2. A lot of this is who you know, to get past cv screening
3. If you are highly specialised, get your LinkedIn polished
4. Consider transferring internally even if it means a pay cut in real terms, much easier to get a better role when out here

Strongly advise Dubai over Doha. In Dubai you have a massive expat culture and it has become very westernised.
You’ll make a lot more money than you’re used to bc there is no tax, but make sure you don’t get put on projects that are in Saudi. A lot of the consulting there tends to involve that, as most clients sit there, and you dont want to move to Dubai to then spend 5 days per week in Riyadh.

I was told willingness to live in/travel to SA is a hiring bump up the list. Most of the work is actually in Saudi, so even if you apply to a firm’s Dubai office, HR will ask you up front if you’re okay to work on SA contracts. Suppose it could depend on the sector, but when I had conversations with McK, EY, and Deloitte, they all entailed some travel to SA. Riyadh has a bad rep from westerners but it is much cheaper than Doha and Dubai. My husband worked out of Riyadh and while there was so much toxicity in his workplace, it was like 50/50 in his office of people burning out/not doing well and then others doing so well, enjoying their work, traveling cheaply, having new experiences, getting massages on the weekends lol, and embracing a new culture. My point is there is good & bad, pros & cons.
Secondly, if you want to ask questions then absolutely reach out to relevant Partners on linkedin. This approach is not taboo there. I reached out to 3 partners this way and they all were so nice offering 30 min to tell me about their team and what the work is like. Really helped me better understand their hiring process

Idk about European pay, but outside MBB, even with tax advantages, pay was lower there than US. I was told 130k a year for a manager role at Deloitte, while it’s 200k in US. COL can be quite high there too. Also, work is a grind, and what you do is often not very transferable. Last, what was said about most projects being in Saudi is true.
You could probably get around $65k tax free at that level.
