I don't have an answer for you, but I just wanted to say I am proud of you for getting help for whatever it was. :)
Well I wasn't an attorney at the time, but I was in the hospital at least a dozen times and 2 rehabs. I was young, but got sober and on the right meds several years thereafter. Now I'm a newly barred attorney. For mental health I highly recommend genetic testing to find out what meds you respond to. Game changer for me. I have been sober nearing on 2 decades and on the right meds almost 10 years. It was a journey and kudos to you for identifying you need help!
Secretary 1, thanks, my insecurity is telling me that everybody knows about my mental health issues and that I will be discriminated against because of it but there's no evidence of that so that's something that I keep fighting.
I left work for two weeks, unannounced, to deal with addiction, came back, told folks I was sick, and have received glowing reviews, full bonuses and merit bonuses every year since.
This was in biglaw. All they really wanted out of me was the work. When I came back and produced, everyone was happy.

Congratulations on your recovery. Addiction is a type of disability, and when you heal from it, you can be unstoppable.
Yep. Ive had 2 separate courses (11 treatments each) of ECT.
Okay, so life with this is brutal isn’t it? Ive been practicing and dealing with this (plus ADHD - diagnosed at 50) for 20 years. I took a 10 year break and still had depression although not as debilitating. The difference between us and others is we got help - recognizing the need for help and getting the help makes us better lawyers, not weaker ones. Its just critical to get that help, take a step back when needed so as not to impact the work/client.
