If you’re competent at your job you don’t have to worry about job security. If Accenture fires you, go work for another firm.
I should have clarified I am talking about management consulting and not outsourcing or technology consulting.
Part of our customer value is the supposed ability to staff immediately, for any resource. Meaning we tend to overhire significantly. The balance between overhire threshold and bench tolerance is unclear, and stochastic in nature. Sometimes bench tolerance is high, during periods of strong sales and desire to maintain immediate staffing capacity. Sometimes bench tolerance is low, because we’ve overhired so much.
Probably not super helpful for you, but it goes in stages. Additionally, bench tolerance is historically lower for the strategy practice. I know 6-8 people who started with me out of undergrad who have been let go for low charge ability in the last 4 years. They would have been anything from A1 to C2 in level.
For the ones that got let go, what was their %?
I am not an Accenture employee but I think bench tolerance is shifting rapidly at the IT consulting firms. Firms are starting to not hire until a client placement is guaranteed. The corollary to this policy is that you will be let go if the client is lost or when the project ends.
For Accenture, you get a warning to get on a project within 2 weeks or out when you hit 6-9 weeks on the bench.
KP1 - well, that doesn’t sound true for MC. On what basis are you making that comment ? Did you work for ACN and in MC?
These are all sounding very hear say folks and coming from non Accenture people.
I don’t see how junior staff have control over projects - that should be with MDs and SMs.
Also am referring to management consulting.
