[query] Is it a good idea to say a firm No due to medical reasons to a new night shift project I'm hired in?Accenture
I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?
Hi guys ,
I am in a US project in Accenture. We have long calls in the night timings. My other teammate has backed out saying she won't attend any calls as she got some medical condition so she won't attend long calls which extend till 9:30.Other teammate is a junior. The managers are expecting me to join all the calls. No help I am getting. And they all being Tamil, I think some partiality is going on between them.Even our onsite lead is of no use.She expects me to attend long calls.
What should I do .pls suggest?

Also, what would be rent like for 2/3 bhk. Ideally my budget for rent would be <25k. Initially I will be going but in future my family will join me once I am settled. Any points to note or any other gotcha to keep in mind ? Please suggest.

Get a note from a doctor or better yet from an audiologist, that explains your hearing loss. When you go to the director or HR, give them that note. I’ll tell you, I have rheumatoid arthritis (from a very young age of 24) and I also suffer from colitis and migraines. I learned early on that a doctors note is all you need! Good luck!
This is a bit “neither here nor there.” Even if someone was not disabled, it is the disability-motivated harassment that is the breach. Say OP had complete hearing ability, but some nutjob at work was harassing her about being deaf, or similar. Another example, XYZ employee is getting bullied about being gay- even though employee is not.
I have a few questions to clarify the situation:
- What actions are being taken against you?
- Can you explain how these actions are related to your disability?
- Is the director involved in this issue?
- Why do you believe they might terminate your employment?
- Does your disability impact your job performance?
- Your employer can request a medical examination to determine if you are fit for your role. If your disability makes you unsuitable for your current position, your employer will make every effort to find a more suitable role for you.
That was my situation. The bully was fine when pulled aside for 1:1 meetings. For each staff she pushed out. But out at the work area it was no holds barred because there was no one over her directly daily. There were a few times the docs noticed. And it was mentioned
I would not advise filing with company it will create another problem they will try to get rid of you or make your days at work vulnerable
Honestly, I agree. I was sexually harassed repeatedly at work and they terminated me because I was the problem (because I spoke up). They are there to protect the company and unfortunately the problematic employees, You are not protected. I will say though, at least get your disability on file and maybe speak to someone with the ADA. But be careful.
The nurses can be total assholes because they’re mad and burnt out. The medical field is full of people that are burnt out and unhappy..
Don't put up with it another day. Get a lawyer.
Go to human resources immediately and file a complaint, then talk to your supervisor and file complaint. Bullying should never be allowed. It doesn’t even matter if you have a disability bullying is never allowed.I made the mistake of not filing the complaints, just do it!
I was bullied at work…a wellness franchise. There is NO HR. I told the owner and I ended up leaving the position b/c I knew nothing would change. I am traumatized and have not worked since May 2024.
No professional deserves to be bullied or harassed at work disability or not. I would certainly make sure you have everything in writing and a doctor's note explaining the hearing impairment when you speak to HR. I wish you the best in your situation and hope things work out.
It's difficult for anyone to give proper advice because you did not explain how you are being bullied. We had an employee who came in wearing shorts and she was told about the dress code. Her feelings were hurt and then filed a claim in HR claiming harassment. She didn't win.
You should most definitely report this to this above your supervisors that are bullying you.
Talk with your HR department - Federal law, to seek a work related accommodation. The two people are ignorant of the laws.

Federal and California law define “reasonable accommodation.” Reasonable accommodation is defined as a change or alteration to a job, work environment, or the manner in which work tasks are undertaken to permit a person with a disability to enjoy relatively equal access to a job and workplace.
DB101 California - Know Your Rights and Responsibilities: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
You must be able to perform the fundamental duties of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. An employer cannot refuse to hire you because your disability prevents you from performing duties that are not essential to the job.
Age, Hearing Loss, and Communication: What Are My Rights? | ADA National Network
While you may think that declining hearing is just a part of getting older, this condition may be significant enough to be a disability under the ADA. Under the ADA, the term “disability” refers to a physical or mental condition that limits one or more major life activities.

Yes, it is called harrassment and may also violate the ADA. Go to your HR department and file a complaint. Don't pass go, don't collect 200 dollars. Write down all of the details and if anyone else has witnessed it.
HR will NOT help and they are not there to help the employee. They are only there to protect the employer. Trust me on this. Do your research with lawyers. You'll find that out very quickly.
You can always file a grievance or EEOC claim against the bullies due to your disability. However, the burden of proof will fall on you. Just keep a journal of every detail (daily) and hire an attorney. Never let anyone know what you intend to do.
This is against the law. You can visit the EEOC website for more information. I recommend not telling management as they do not need to know unless you share. I would go to HR. They can and should address the bullying as that is against the in and of itself.
You can request An ADA accommodation form to be filled out by your doctor. A note will not suffice. Your doctor can suggest accommodations for your disability and then the ADA tram will agree or make adjustments. But this disability is protected under law.
I know all of this because I am in the middle of both exact issues as we speak.
*Against the law in and of itself
I personally would follow up with the chain of command , that way everyone knows. I am lead technician if one of my technicians was being bullied we going to follow the chain of command , by me being the first line of supervision it will be addressed, if no action is being taken then we will go higher, and still no action is being taken then we go to the Americans With Disabilities law Instituted in 1990 to protect and prevent such acts. Remember names , dates ,etc. Will play a very important role.
I got bullied all the time, even I wear hearing aid all the time but still struggle with hearing loss! Every where has bullied. I just suck it up . Forgive me English is not my first language!
This company will NOT help and has serious disability discrimination no matter what they say. A doctor revealed they are masters of managing people out. Disgraceful.
First - I am so sorry this is happening, I am hearing impaired as well and have faced bullying in the work place.
The EEOC has many laws to protect you from losing your job due to a disability/impairment.
https://www.eeoc.gov/laws/guidance/hearing-disabilities-workplace-and-americans-disabilities-act
Don't let any of them get to you! Just because you are hearing impaired doesn't mean you cannot work just like everyone else. Sometimes it can create some challenges, but that shows how much harder you're willing to do your job. I also keep in mind - what goes around, comes around!

There's absolutely no excuse for bullying of any kind. Whether it's in the workplace or at school or even online regarding cyber-bullying. Bullying is just wrong on so many levels and nobody should ever engage in that at all PERIOD
Document document document date time who said what a note from your physician and the situation can be addressed with HR if not handled appropriately you can seek legal action.
