I come from a very wealthy family in Atherton, California. I became financially responsible at 16 years old, but learned about building and maintaining wealth when i obtained my AB in Economics with summa cum laude honors at 20 years old and MBA with summa cum laude honors and JD with summa cum laude honors from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School at 24 years old. I became an M&A Investment Analyst and then a M&A Investment Banking Associate at Goldman Sachs and after that i got promoted quickly to VP then to MD. Now I am a 30 year old ivy-league educated MD at Goldman Sachs in another lucrative division at Goldman Sachs that pays more and works closely with the investment banking division. I am a minority (African-American and Moroccan Male). The African-American side of my family started lucrative investments and businesses in the finance, biotechnology, and technology decades ago and the Moroccan side of my family has wealth from oil and lucrative businesses as well. So I already kind of knew about financial responsibility, but my ivy-league degrees and lucrative position helped me gain more in-depth knowledge about finances and investments.

18 because I got pregnant and kids need things! I bought my first house at 27. I wish I had more saved and used my credit cards less but I just didn’t make enough for quite awhile. Realizing now at 30 having something is better than nothing and I still have time!

Hi guys 👋🏻
This is regarding the interest amount of our EPF.

For you guys,is the interest details showing any amount in the EPFO member passbook? Or is it showing '0' like me(As seen in the photo below)?

Is the government yet to credit the interest amounts of our PF balances? Or is something wrong with my PF account only?

Any inputs will be really appreciated 🙂

Is it true that some* debt is good debt. I’m referring to student loans, interest is ranging from 2% - 5% (all federal loans). Total is 20k, is it smarter to pay it off immediately and ASAP or just stretch and put the extra money into investing? Note I just graduated this year, thank you guys :)

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.

I just heard recently that if you refinance and your house appraises at 20% more than the amount owed, you can remove PMI. Is this correct? Getting a divorce and trying to keep the house but moving from a VA to a traditional loan and would rather not pay PMI if I don’t have to. House was purchased for $460k no money down (VA loan), refinanced at $450k to lower payments $400/month, now have $430k left on the loan... would it have to appraise for $516k?

Does the $20,500 pre-tax 401k contribution limit include employer match? I.e. My contribution + Employer 6% match = $20,500? I know that the combined employer/employee contribution limit is around $60k, but from my understanding that ends up being due to after tax contributions. Apologies if this has been answered before - thanks!

Hi all, I have a question regarding retirement accounts. I am not sure if I should choose a Roth or 401k (company has 4+2% match). Currently 23, base salary is ~100k and investments have brought 45k this year which has me teetering between a 22-24% tax bracket. Wondering what the usual tax bracket is of people retired (around 65yo) as I’m not sure anything would bring in significant income with the exception of investments. In my case would a Roth make sense? Appreciate any answers!!
