Youre doing the right thing. Get a new job and fire your agency.
You’re giving yourself an opportunity to escape from that. Even if it turns out to be a similar situation, like you said, might as well make more money 🤷🏻♂️
Leave. No job is worth that stress. I use to think that was normal, and just how it was, but it’s not. Good luck with the interview, I hope you get it. Take the new job, start over.
You can restart not only the job but expectations of your boundaries. You’ve already established in your current role that you’ll work those hours; that’s tough to go back on and could get worse as time goes on. Start over and set the boundaries you expect yourself and others to adhere to from the beginning.
This is such great advice, you’re absolutely right! I slowly allowed myself to be taken advantage of and didn’t draw those hard boundaries until I was too deep down the rabbit hole.
Sounds like we're on the same team haha. Hope you crush the interview!
You sound like my AS and I kind of hope you are because you really deserve a break and a new opportunity
UPDATE: Got the job! Any advice on how to tactfully give notice?
Polite conversation with your direct manager. They'll give you next steps.
Do it.
60-70 is crazy. MAKE THE MOVE. Can't be worse, and at least your salary goes up.
If you do end up staying, you should figure out how to get those hours down. I don't know if it's your time management, or prioritization, or pushing back, or just a convo with your boss, but that's not sustainable and they probably don't want you burning out or turning out hurried work either.
Yeah I'd totally jump then. But that's just based on what I'm hearing. Your call and best of luck!
I feel like the meme of the two Spidermen pointing at each other - are you me? I’ve been hitting the 80 hours mark/most weekends have 4-5 hours of work involved too. I also skipped my period for a couple of months and when I took a few days off, my body fully crashed. I got my period, got a cold sore for the first time in my life, broke out in a rash, overall felt like garbage and I realized in a very scary way how much of a toll my workload was taking on my health.
I have started making my plan to quit, which has involved reaching out to my contacts and networking while also cutting down on expenses like crazy and saving. I am planning to give my notice close to end of year without a plan if I haven’t found another opportunity that feels right. I have also started pushing back a lot at the hours and workload, as gracefully as I can - it’s probably making me less popular with certain people, but it’s not worth my physical health and the relationships with my partner and family that have been neglected during this time. Hang in there and sending you strength!
GURL! I feel for you so much, I’ve also got this wild canker AND have a cold that I surely gave myself from lack of sleep and constant anxiety. So lol to the pregnancy tests I had to take bc of work and the covid test I also had to take to ensure my cold was in fact a cold. Before you quit, I’m wondering if you could attempt to flag the health issues and work less? I know it sounds easier said than done, but in these covid times it’d be better if they fire you or lay you off so you can collect unemployment rather than quit. I also have another friend who was in a similar situation and she just took a leave of absence, so perhaps that could also be an avenue? I’m here for ya if you need a good vent!
Read this and wondered if I drunkenly wrote it. You’re doing the right thing!! Go for it.
Do it! I hope to be in your shoes some day soon. Going through the same thing at my current job.
Don’t stay in a job that does this to your body. I promise you it’s not healthy and there are consequences.
