I have found many connections on LinkedIn. I search the job listings For a position I want and then search profiles of people who work there.
I reach out to one or two people requesting a 10-minute phone conversation and explain why I’m reaching out and a quick summary of my background only one or two sentences or even bullet points and request information about the company, culture and opportunities for growth.
Many people have taken me up on this AND have introduced me to other influential people. It’s networking. It’s work. Do your research. Be yourself!
I am freelancing looking for a full-time position, and many people are open to helping.
Sometimes it’s challenging to put yourself out there, but your job now is to feel good about yourself no matter what.
Get into a routine to take care of yourself so you feel good about YOU. Dedicate time each day to research the companies you find compelling, the jobs you want, and ask for help. Create a system so you know who to follow up with and when.
It takes a brave soul to be vulnerable, but you will come okay. Be sure to take care of your physical and emotional well being. Get outside. Use the time you are looking for you. Develop a support network of friends, family — even go to a formal networking event or two. People who have not been through what you are experiencing will not be the best at understanding, but they could still be supportive. Be discriminating and enlist only those who boost you up!
It’s easy to be disheartened. What you are experiencing is VERY difficult. Take care!
