Oh wow, it does sound like your employer is taking advantage of you while dangling a promise of an award over your head that they clearly have no intention of following through on. When is your next “bonus” due? If it’s soon I guess you will find out what you’re worth to your employer. Either way, I highly, highly suggest that you update your resume and start looking since the job market is tough. It is good to get a jump start.
How high are you in the organization? High enough to see P&L?
They might be developing you but giving conservative bonuses across the board.
In this market I’d be careful before you punch out and say see ya!
Never do more than you are paid to do. You will not be rewarded in 2024.
Baited. KF does the same thing. Managers mask taking on more work well above your pay grade is "development". Not when you do it for years, and get high performance reviews, but no pay increase or recognition. It is clear that the business isn't paying fairly or providing opps to move into other areas because #1 they will lose high performers and #2 it will cost them too much to backfill. They have cheap labor with myself and others doing exceptional work at low pay. Why would they ruin that?? It took me years to realize this. Don't wait. Put yourself first.
So disheartening
It's not that uncommon for someone to be taken for granted, which can include a bonus over the horizon which never quite arrives. If you're convinced there's no open road ahead of you in the organization, it might be best to put out feelers and see what else is available.
BAITED
This is why you never do more than your job description.
