Beware the colleague who smiles most at you. They could be the one who ends you up on a PIP in this business. This is not a baseless post, it’s just realism based on a situation I found out today.

YEP. The CD who claimed to be my friend and my mentor, whom I talked to for hours, was the first one to turn around and tell my direct manager that I did not deserve to be there. Be careful in this business. I'm so sorry you're going through that OP.

like

Sorry this is happening to you. Honestly never heard of a CD being put on a PIP.

likehelpful

Oh wow. Thanks for saying so. I know of quite a few!!! Sometimes it’s behind the scenes with just HR and a supervisor. Not public knowledge.

like

There was a ECD who did that to everyone and anyone, no matter what department. Stay safe. Know your worth and value.

That’s true because I smile at this art director a fair amount but I’d happily put her on a pip because she sucks. The worst I’ve worked with.

Maybe you're on a PIP because of your performance?

I’m not on the PIP, a colleague is. And the person who got them there is the one who feigns a sickening sweet level of camaraderie.

I’m sorry. It’s crazy how duplicitous people can be. I just posted this: https://joinfishbowl.com/post_xjweq27i9m

PIPs don’t happen out of the blue. There are 2 sides, and HR must have met with those involved to understand what happened. Maybe the “smiler” has no other way of dealing with an uncomfortable and toxic situation.

Although in a toxic workplace PIPs are doled out like candy, often vindictive, when there are many other ways interpersonal challenges can be handled more compassionately and more constructively.

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I’m not sure if he’s changing the meaning or isn’t communicating what he’s envisioning or what but it’s embarrassing to be called out like that, and to have people think you’re the dumb 23 year old.

If buy the partners you work with regularly a holiday gift, how much do you spend? Usually I get baked goods or food items which you can’t tell the actual amount spent on. This year, though, I’d like to support local restaurants by encouraging people to order takeout—hence, giving gift cards.

How much is appropriate for a restaurant gift card from an associate to a partner?

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.

The first offer is for an Account Executive position at a smaller company with a base of $50k and another $20k in OTE.

The second offer is for a BDR position at a larger and faster growing company with a base of $60k and another $20k in OTE. Also some stock options but they aren’t public yet.

I have 2 YOE as a BDR and think I could succeed in either position. Both have hybrid work set ups. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated! Thanks.
