OP. That was me a year ago. Got a job offer and gently suggested I would have to walk because the economics did not make sense. Got a 40% hike. Be professional and be ready to walk. Good Luck!
Gotta get on that switching game doe
OP- I feel you. Experienced hired. 30 year old with masters and years of relevant experience and I'm at $70k. Don't even get me started. K1- great story, thanks for sharing! Out of curiosity, do you think the counter job offer works with jobs from non-big 4 firms? Saw a job that I am interested in today, but it is at a fed contractor as opposed to another consulting firm. Sorry OP. I'm with you.
Don't enter it. You are not obligated to give your current salary.
Based on what Big D is going to give I pretty much feel to same. Time to follow conventional wisdom which is to jump to get that big raise. Not worth the long hours, time away from family and mundane firm initiatives only to get a few $100 more per month.
In my case it was another Big 4 but I would assume it would work with any offer. The bottom line is that you must bring a specific skill and expertise that is valued by your practice or the Partner you work most closely with.
This job is all about the money. I am here because I make 30% more than my classmates out of b-school. If you are not making enough, walk away, like yesterday.
Op- what level and DTR/OU are you? Each practice at Accenture has a diff. Pay scale. If you're in BPO, they pay the least, if you're FS or Strat, they pay the most... So although it may seem low, it's relative to your practice avg pay.
D2 is correct...depending on what part of the country you live in, some states have actually made it illegal to ask your current salary until after an offer is made.
Op- a person should not be both! Time to look around and see what both the competition and industry have to offer!
Sorry to hear. I have seen other people do this thing where they boomerang out of Deloitte to another firm, and then come back. Typically they get a compensation bump Both times! Thoughts from others???
Why did you accept that salary of you were unhappy ? #negotiate
Also salary should be commensurate with experience...seven years doesn't automatically equal more pay...take a hard look at your skills and experience
I'd walk if your skills are marketable. Also ask your counselor to request a pay bump. Why not?
K1 - yeaaaa! That's the way to do it.
When applying to other firms the sites do require you to indicate current salary. Of course I don't plan to, but how do you answer what is literally a field requiring a number value?
Thanks, K1
Put in a range into the salary field if it's a required field
D4- I did negotiate. During our initial convos, they were quoting in the 80s. When they sent me my letter, they dropped it down to $65k. I did negotiate and they wouldn't do above $70k. By the time that they made the offer, I needed and wanted the job. Not cool, not fair.
The best time to negotiate is on the way in. You might need to make a move to get the significant bump
