Preferred has the higher bonus right now.

Reserve has higher bonus amounts. If you spend more than $20k on your credit card, and a lot of that spend falls into the bonus categories where Reserve offers a higher multiplier, then go Reserve. Otherwise, stay preferred.

Hi tax 🐠,

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?

If I've maxed out my TFSA, should I continue investing through an RRSP or a personal investment account?

For context, I also have a good pension. My main concern is that while the RRSP will be nice to lower my taxable income now, I'm worried when I retire I'll have to withdraw too much from both the RRSP and pension. Thoughts?

H1B visa stamped.

While applying for visa my company quoted 80K as compensation. Now they want to reduce it to 75K.

This feels like unfair practice. Is it common? What should be my approach?

Hi all! To qualify for an L1A visa, do you have to be a senior manager / executive level or does it work as long as you’re a manager? I just moved out of the US because the H1b lottery didn’t work out for me, and I’m thinking rather than spending 1 or 2 years in my home country and go back as a senior, I’d much rather work here a bit longer, get that manager title, wait a year, and then go back as I think that would be the fastest route to green card..? Any thoughts/advice? I’m from 🇰🇷 :) TYI!!

I’ve seen a couple posts lately with comments saying that people should not use a Roth 401k. Does the logic below capture the spirit of that concept?
1. Use trad. 401k to reduce taxable income now. Convert to trad. IRA once retired, then convert gradually to Roth IRA (ladder, SEPP, etc.) at lowest marginal tax rate
2. Use Roth IRA (and/or backdoor Roth) to take advantage of tax free growth and ability to withdraw principal early without penalty

Does anyone have experience relocating a semi-independent non-working elderly parent locally?
I’m looking to move my mom locally to take care of her in just over a year. She wants to live alone so I’m trying to figure out best options. So far im leaning towards buying her a small place so I don’t have to sink money into renting her a place and can at least get some equity. But would love perspective from others about best financial options for someone in my position

Hi everyone! How did you discuss with your boss all the time you’d be needing to take off for appointments? My boss absolutely hates when people take time off. Company policy is at least a week ahead of time - she says she needs at least 2. Also when someone requests off a couple days in March then a couple days in April for example, she gets annoyed and says they are requesting too much time (even if they have plenty of PTO available).
