Definitely get the civilian qualifications for whatever role you're wanting to be in. That helped me greatly in gaining employment in my desired field post military

Look at participating in DOD Skillsbridge. I am a current Skillsbridge Fellow at Northwestern Mutual retiring after 22 years of being an Army Med Lab Tech. I never thought about working as a Financial Planner until Skillsbridge. Talk to your Transition Assistance Office as soon as possible for details.

Attend your TAP workshops as well as other employment and education workshops available. Matthew suggested Skillbridge. That is a good recommendation especially if you want to gain some civilian experience. Be adaptable, flexible and consistent. All the best!

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Tried researching this for hours but only found info on applying to other agencies.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
