Do you ever worry your family is going to resent you for all of the time you spend at work? A buddy of mine recently got divorced, and his kids don't even want to talk to him

No. Quality over quantity. If you make the time you spend valuable, the kids will have fond memories.

My Dad worked his ass off and we only really saw him on weekends because he left before we got up and came home after our (early) bedtime. But that’s the way it was and we had all of his attention on weekends. As long as everyone knows what it is, it becomes your family routine.

This is SO spot on!

This is the second time you’ve tried to make this point. I have to assume you don’t have a family. I couldn’t disagree more. Perhaps there are people so monumentally insecure that they do it for their ego, but I haven’t met them yet. It’s too crappy a job to do for any other reason

like

P1 nailed it. I would also add that you are working so hard to give your family opportunities and options many less fortunate folks don’t have.

like

This is a nice excuse that everyone has to test for themselves. Do you do this for your family or for yourself?

1. This is individual. You are not your buddy.
2. Logistically if you are gone the whole week and only home on weekends, no quality time spent on weekends will replace the time lost during the week. you don’t live at home you are just visiting. You are also human and you need to relax over the weekend as well. Then there is golfing :)
3. Many partners (I only know big 4 partners) delude themselves that they do it to provide for their family, while in reality it is about them (ego trip etc). Some know it some don’t.
4. Ask your family what they think?

like

It becomes an issue if you then spend your weekend not being a part of the family. In this field it’s tough to work really long hours, be present with family and have your own hobbies that are separate. You get to pick 2.

like

Let’s be honest, this job isn’t so important that it should be prioritized over family. The best partners I’ve seen prioritize family first and balance client demands. Majority of them are great at leveraging those around them and work in large accounts / ecosystems.

Any other lonely social workers in here? I mean a lot to some of the people on my caseload but that's about it. 2. How do you collect it? Venmo? Credit card?
3. Do you have to register your business?

Thank you in advance for any guidance.

Question: Girl friends parents finally came over for a ristha. Everything went great or so I thought but now she wants to time to think about moving forward. The pain point she brought up is that we are in different states and she is feeling pressed. Although in that time she has started communicating less and I literally had to beg her to get on face time. My gut says she wants to end it but unsure. Any advice ? My mom’s friend was supposed to come to my wedding in a week and just cancelled. I’ve never met her but my mom insisted she be invited. This person already sent us a check which we deposited already; we already sent a thank you card. This person left me a VM saying they were sorry they couldn’t come; they have leukemia and their Dr. didn’t approve. Do I need to call them back? I would like to avoid an awkward phone call about personal matterwith a stranger but also don’t want to be insensitive.

I have to tell my parents that I got engaged this weekend. I’m incredibly nervous about this conversation. Going to have it in about two hours. Any words of advice?

Anyone here ever been scared by some major differences in materialism with your partner? I’ve been considered “boujee” by some friends but my girlfriend of just over a year is on a whole other level. Lately because of many of her friends getting engaged / married, rings have been mentioned and she’s said pretty much she wouldnt be happy with under 25k.

I come from a very middle class upbringing, and so does she, although she’s influenced by friends dating professional athletes and stuff
