No. Effective leaders can lead regardless of gender. If the people being led can only do so from one gender, they probably aren't flexible thinkers and might be due for replacement

I think effective leadership is tailored to the individuals and team, so of course it does.

I tend to believe it makes a considerable difference. It's the basis for seeking gender diversity, you draw from wider perspectives. There are still some rearguard soldiers who will argue that a non-diverse team is easier to manage, and there are less potential conflicts. But seeking to avoid hypothetical conflicts is no way to manage.

Maybe but I think it depends on the team they are leading

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). I’ve been working for a small investment firm for about a year and am having some issues with my boss. We have a weekly check-in but he’s ALWAYS 2-3 hours late, or skips the meeting altogether without warning. He also never replies to any of the emails I send. I already spoke with him about these issues, but things haven’t really changed. I really like the work I do but I’m starting to feel frustrated about the situation. Any advice? I am an associate at a UMM and my employment contract has a 4 month non compete (yes, even for associates) but I am thinking of lateraling. What are the implications of breaking a non compete? I didn’t say anything when I signed because I was desperate for a PE offer but it seems so unfair as I am just a lowly associate. At my fiancés company they are able to use a personal card (which then they get all the points and perks) and then just expensive to they company.

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

My remit quadrupled+ in a recent re-org with no increase in pay/promotion, my new director is new to the company and was zero help, and I was passed over for recent promotion during the comp cycle. I just recently joined a small organization that I have wanted to be a part of for the past 2 years, accepted the role of general manager. Our annual reviews are approaching & one of my direct reports has been with us for almost six years w/ little growth. My reco was to let him go & find a stronger, hungrier & more motivated designer at the same level. However, my boss instead wants us to promote him in hopes that will spark some motivation.
