The reason i want to leave is because i have been here 7 years and think ive devoted enough time and resources to make this job ‘ work’, i have great ratings year on year but feel like ive learnt little to no tangible skills. The path to SM looks daunting and long
I feel the same way OP!
I am contemplating quitting too. M here as well but for completely different reasons. Been here for a long time but don’t think I can be here anymore due to toxic people around
Fellow mom, here. Only son transitioning to Middle School, asked if he could travel with me to my projects so that we'd spend more time together. Broke my heart!!! This is probably the last season where my son is still a 'Momma's boy' ... soon he'll be a teen and it's "Mom, who?"
Personally I'm leaving for better WLB (been with company for 1 yr). It's a 20% increase in base than current salary going back to previous employer but different department. Want to leave door open to come back in a year or so if it doesn't work as expected. Suggestions?
Can’t speak for what it’s like to quit, but talk to people your network about the challenges you’re having and see how others have managed. You might have more options than you think. I know I’ve made it work with two small kids by charting my own path a bit... I wouldn’t have thought that would be an option without having talked to a bunch of moms at the firm, deciding what would work best for me, then just doing it (versus waiting for someone to give me a “solve” or quitting). It’s a tough job to manage with kids, so quitting might be the right thing for you — I’d just urge you to explore before making a decision
You likely have an answer already in your mind.. leaving is sometimes very hard but as usual..if the economics + opportunities > staying, then it likely makes sense but you’ll have to build your network and reputation from scratch again (which in itself is not necessarily a bad thing either). Good luck OP!
There is not right answer here. In big 4 it will depend on your practice, teams and client. I’ve had light engagements and other very heavy load engagements. Depends why you feel like you need to leave. If it’s workload I assume it’s the same at all big4s. If it’s culture you have to see which fits you most. If you feel you need to leave big 4 all together then try to be sure you know what u want and where your going before you make the move. But whichever it is, make the best out of it
I’m not from Deloitte, but most firms will take you back if you leave on good terms. There are plenty of boomerangs! Do what’s right for you
