My work life balance is crap. I hate missing out on quality time at home, or having my kids at daycare for 10 hours a day :(
Partner here. To most of us it’s about what you do not how you do it most of the time. I still have young kids. I do morning drop off just before 8, then catch a train to the office. I work hard and leave at 4 to catch the train home. Granted, I work on my hour train commute. From 5-8, I’m home and unless it’s busy season or there’s a hard deadline I don’t take calls. After 8, when my younger ones go to bed, I routinely take calls and work after 8 when my kids go to bed. I know some of you are rolling your eyes, but I started this much younger in my career and if you are open, most people are ok. If your manager gives you shit, go to the SM. If the SM gives you shit, go to the partner. We get it because a lot of us are in the same position. I wouldn’t give up the time with my kids for anything
"Hole".. "loose" LMFAO
Ps I’m a working mom and I think that makes it so much worse. Kids tell me daily they hate my job and boss
Don’t understand your question. What do you mean re: too awful to work 9-5:30? I think the firms are trying to be more parent friendly which means trying not to have us work 75 hrs a week. It is PA and so unless you are on a reduced schedule 9-5:30 isn’t the deal. If you want something closer to that (a rigid workday isn’t possible everyday in a professional environment) you will have to take a pay cut. Other full timers aren’t doing less than 40 a week as you suggest
What is “pro parent”? This is a new term to me.
Work in the official from 9 to 5:30. I always connect after 8 but it does not look like it is the same as working from the office
Never less then 55 hours a week
Pwc 1 I hear you...
If you dont like the hours but like public accounting leave Big 4
I recently left big for industry. The company has decent work like balance, be being still in accounting, we need to do month end close (average 9-9.5 hour day for six business day). My kids are 1 and four. It’s much easier than PA but still challenging. It’s just hard being a mom and working full time. I heard it gets once they are older and start playing sports, taking music lessons, etc.
EY2 is right. You can make it work doing “office hours”, go home to be with your kids and then catch up on the rest at night.
You should also just work from home for entire days when you can. People will realize you have more important things going on.
