Why would any D move to MBB? Big D is more prestigious...
Oh jeez... another prestige question: really?
KPMG > MBB 🙂😐😕🙁☹️😣😖😫
My connections tell me that comp, benefits, culture, and average intelligence level and capability level are all great. The hidden YMMV is really in the types of projects you do (plenty of PMO and execution work) as well as definitely worse work life balance. Also consider the competition to survive and make it to the next level is more fierce, so the calculus is not that simple, depending on your goals. Having said that, nobody regretted the decision
@OY1 Not sure of other people’s experience, but I’ve never heard of anyone here doing PMO work.
@McK1 we def do our fair share of PMO, change management, and other assorted mind numbing topics
@S&2 I would actually consider MBB to be less “competitive”. Sure there is up or out, but it is very transparent where you are and they give you clear indication of what you need to do to make it to the next level. The bar for promo is also absolute, not relative. As in, if 100% of the class has the skills to succeed at the next level, then everyone is promoted. If no one does, no one is promoted. Versus a model where you are stack ranked against your peers and only top 50% or whatever make it. In my experience it defuses competitiveness and encourages collaboration. Finally as we see from the 10000 posts on fishbowl, MBB salaries are generally standardized at a given tenure (unlike b4) so no competition there either.
Basic
M1 - BCG folks were doing PMO at my client. Definitely not out of the ordinary. I feel like it takes discipline from senior leadership to not waste good talent on mind-numbing work, even if the $$ are there
Z1, so basically the same problem of partners treating people like leftover meat for the grinder is universal. Delightful!
We do PMI work (designing new org etc.) but in my 2 years I’ve never seen anyone doing PMO work (pure project management)
