Happy first day of Spring!

I got into my dream job recently. I was told that I should get to scheduling 1:1s with the senior director. Lol what do you usually talk about on one on ones with higher ups? I have one already with my direct manager.

I am so sick and fed up with some of the older clients at my job. I know it's my responsibility to take care of them, but they're just so sexist sometimes.

I hate how my boss always goes on loooong monologue. What could take an hour of meeting turns into 3 hours.

Recently I’ve been in the enviable position of receiving several job offers from other firms and attorneys. I am currently employed and very happy at my current firm. What is the best way to politely decline these offers, both those made via phone and email, without burning any bridges?

Do you drink at holiday parties? This is the first company I've worked for that does a real holiday party and I'm kind of anxious about letting my guard down around my co-workers like that...

I have a photographer/ videographer on my team who is amazingly talented at executing the work, but he has no larger creative ideas or vision, and totally shuts down when we try to push him. Has anyone ever successfully grown someone like this or is it a lost cause?

How to handle working with someone who frustrates you immensely? I work with someone who is one level above me hierarchically and is an ultimate micromanager (not one agenda or recap can be without edits) and is rude about establishing that they have dominance. The more senior leaders on the team are awesome and so is the client. It’s this one coworker who just got promoted and is now stepping on me constantly. Thanks!

Midlevel and seniors, how do you review juniors’ work without redoing them? Any tips on giving instructions or spotting mistakes?

I know some of my colleagues are recording their standard fees as time so that it counts towards their billable hours. It infuriates me but am I just being naive by not doing the same?

I am meeting with my old VP of HR for lunch soon, they got let go after a few months with the company. I had a great working relationship with them and felt they were really trying to push me forward in the company unlike my manager. I can’t shake off the “guilt” feeling like I am doing something wrong. Can anyone relate?

So my VP at my previous company felt bad and refused to speak to me or attend my farewell after my resignation. His reason was that I somehow betrayed his trust as he had promoted me just last year (after keeping the position open for 4 months and letting me take additional work load after the previous SM left!). Does this make any sense? I mean where does this sense of entitlement or ownership over the employees come from? No wonder the company in question is kind of facing a literal exodus!

I think I’m about to get my first experience of getting in trouble with a partner for work that I actually already sent for review and followed up on multiple times (and brought up during calls). Stay tuned… 😑

How do you deal with a challenger type of personality? I’m fairly new and I know the senior is trying to teach me the thought process. But she also makes me feel extremely small by the way she phrases her questions. I’m already stressed out not having everything figured out yet and this makes me feel super tense and down.

At some points, I feel I am becoming a problem magnet 🧲. Anything I touch or get involved in, tun into a nightmare despite doing my best not to screw up. The old administrator at my department won't allow me to write on what I want, even though I thought that was implicit when I joined. Can I push her to allow me to take control of my research?

I am seriously worried. I am doing my co-op and my supervisor is not giving me an easy time. I am trying to do my best even with very little direction and this supervisor constantly harassing my about things like her not being able to use google meet or to remember passwords. I feel bullied and very anxious. I am afraid she can jeopardize my visa with a bad evaluation. I have been working at midnight, on Sunday mornings but I am human, I make mistakes, she just blames me instead of teaching.

Really looking for a way to turn around a toxic building culture with staff to staff bullying, cliques/social isolation, hard feelings on big topics (racism, non acceptance of gender identity). Last year the staff polarized with the lead bully whom I helped leave. And the lead gossip (who was my secretary) that gained their sympathy and turned them against me. She also left. Now I need to regain trust and eliminate unacceptable teacher behaviors. Open to any and all advice.

A partner put me in charge of a specific project that I ran independently. Things were going well. The client began asking me to do more and more, including revamping their system and internal trainings. The client even gave me a litigation matter. Suddenly, the partner became more involved. I was removed from meetings concerning the revamping, my trainings were cancelled, and he started micromanaging. He has now sidelined me from the project and trash talked me to the client. I am very upset.

My sister told me I gained a lot of face fat during quarantine and that really hurt my feelings. I’ve gained 20 pounds in quarantine but actively try to take care of myself, unlike her. I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now).
