As someone with severe ADHD, I would strongly discourage any accommodation requests. I'm open about my ADHD and encourage others to be open. However, asking for accommodations will end your career. I hate to say it but despite what you may hear from HR or leadership, accommodations are a fast path to being shown the door. I've seen it at multiple firms and I currently work for a firm that is known for being one of the most employee friendly companies in the world.
That is too bad to hear. I am always hesitant to ask for anything out of fear that it will cast me in a bad light, but also makes me wonder how long I can keep up without having any accommodations or anything. Could you imagine how well people would do with even some basic arrangements.
I think the ask around these would need to be specific and more defined to be useful. Everyone deals with ADHD differently, so I’m not sure a generic training course would be the most useful accommodation. For an ADHD coach, you may already have benefits for therapy that can also apply if the practitioner has the right credentials.
